yoosi as the second striker

another reason why I am a big advocate of gerrard playing further up the pitch is you will extend his playing career as he will run/work less than he would if he were in central midfield.

Rafa said Aquilani is going to play inbetween Masher and Gerrard, something like this:

-------Masher----
-Kuyt-----Aqua----Riera
------Gerrard-------
--------------Torres-----

For now there's nothing stopping it being:

-------Masher----
-Kuyt-----Gerrard----Riera
-------- Yossi-------------
---------------Torres--------

Playing him there *now* doesn't extend his shelf life, Neil.

Yossi is the most creative player we have after Gerrard and Torres by some margin.

Those games still have to be won, and it's still the case that Deadly isn't more likely to score.
sure they have to be won and goodness know we need a flat track bully but I would use those two hattricks as a bench mark as an indication of anything.
How about you look at the goal Torres scored at stamford bridge 2 years ago in the CL when we are out of ideas and see who created it.

I like Kuyt he works harder than anyone but Yossi is the more creative for sure, hat trick or no hat trick.

okay, you keep yossi as the second striker and gerrard as a central midfielder, and when aqualini is fit again...?
Revert back to our usual formation, I would have thought that was fairly obvious. However Gerrard, Aqualani and Torres are not always going to be there at the same time, so a tested plan "B" might be prudent Neil

Not awkward at all. If he is a success we are winning and you do not change a winning side. Ease aquaman in slowly.

It's not rocket science.

I'm not talking about 5 years I'm talking now this season.

Compare the last 10 and Robbie Fowler would be worth playing by your line of thought.

Right now this season after Gerrard and Torres Yossi is clearly the most threatening attacker we have and if you cannot see that then you are either blind or just playing devil's advocat.

Add to the fact Kuyt has played a lot more games than Yossi over the last 2 years means your point is well pointless.

It's a daft comparison because one is more of a centre forward and the other is more of a playmaker. Yossi is more likely to create a goal from scratch, Kuyt is more likely to score with the movement of a striker.

Statistically though it's an even more ridiculous comparison by the sheer fact that Kuyt has played practically every League and European game he's been available for, while Yossi clearly hasn't but I'd wager isn't far off Kuyt in both sets of stats.

Appearances/Goals:

Kuyt - 153/43 28%

Yossi - 95/23 24%

Not much in that, considering Yossi's appearances will be more heavily made up of sub appearances and many earlier appearances will be without the benefit of a 'run' in the side too. Add that Kuyt has played a fair amount of those games upfront too, it doesn't reflect that favourably by comparison, though both are sound returns from what are essentially supporting attackers.

1 goal per 4 apps, can't ask for much more than that, it's excellent from both.

Rafa has too many favorites. The fact that he puts Dirk in the center behind Torres instead of Benayoun who Torres has actually said he loves playing with Benayoun behind him is madness. I also can't understand how Lucas has played every minute for us this season. Its why I am pretty sure we will see the usual
my point is in cental midfield you will work harder, run further and generally take more punishment, playing further forwards may extend gerrard's career and even if it's by a few years it would still be worth it.

No, he isn't. I like the pair of them and would like to see them both in the side regularly, but there's no way Deadly "makes things happen" the way Yossi's been doing and, as far as goals are concerned, Deadly has a good record in big games, but how many hat-tricks has he got?
yossi's hatricks were against;
a) a new promoted team
b) a european team that we got a record amount of goals against
Who were Kuyt's hat-tricks against?

Do that by minutes played and you'll find a far different story is told, One of the much more potent Yossi Benayoun. Can't just superficially compare stats when Kuyt starts every game and plays every minute. Rafa loves him we all know that.

Well at some points it was for the same reason Lucas has played every minute of every game for us this season 😉

But last year it was because he was in sparkling form.

I don't dislike Kuyt. I like watching him play I love watching him celebrate his goals but Yossi>Kuyt imo. Especially in games against lower opposition, the kinda games that cost us the title last year.
