yoosi as the second striker

Thats a given, but maybe the real question is, if Gerrard has to dip back into midfield or if he is injured or suspended, who is the most appropriate member of the squad to replace him - its Benayoun for me.

The guy is so 'light' off each foot, he can throw his body in either direction off either his left or right foot - its a talent made for the center.

Whilst I think Stevie playing in the 2 of the 4-2-3-1 is dangerous against 'good' sides as Stevie likes to roam and he leaves a lot of gaps and the team stretched, I did like the amount of bodies we had forward during attacks yesterday. If we were a little better with the final ball/touch, another day we'd have scored 4/5.
I think against some of the sides who come to park the bus, Yossi is better in behind and Stevie in the 2. However against any decent side, Stevie should be behind Nando, hopefully Aquilani in the 2, and Yossi/Dirk/Babel/Riera competing for the wide spots.

imho it is again a question of yossi or riera.

Yossi every time.

TBH I like it the way it is shaping up. When we don't have the ball Kuyt is central fighting for the high balls playing as a target man, generally going after 1st and 2nd balls. Then when we are set in possession and into the attacking phase of play he drifts off and Yossi comes more central and does the playmaking from there. Switching them around like that gets you the best of both worlds IMO, and they are certainly both smart enough to know when to switch around to get the maximum impact.

i'd rather see yossi there than dirk.
I wouldn't. kuyt is infinately more likely to score a goal or make something happen.

No, he isn't. I like the pair of them and would like to see them both in the side regularly, but there's no way Deadly "makes things happen" the way Yossi's been doing and, as far as goals are concerned, Deadly has a good record in big games, but how many hat-tricks has he got?

yossi's hatricks were against;
a) a new promoted team
b) a european team that we got a record amount of goals against

Take no notice JJ, you are right.
It's obvious to me that Dirk should stay out right, where he has made his name for us, and play Yossi in the middle. Yossi is far more effective in the middle, and Dirk offers more from the right.

Those games still have to be won, and it's still the case that Deadly isn't more likely to score.
sure they have to be won and goodness know we need a flat track bully but I would use those two hattricks as a bench mark as an indication of anything.

You could use it as an indication that he knows where the fucking net is

okay, you keep yossi as the second striker and gerrard as a central midfielder, and when aqualini is fit again...?

Revert back to our usual formation, I would have thought that was fairly obvious. However Gerrard, Aqualani and Torres are not always going to be there at the same time, so a tested plan "B" might be prudent Neil

When Aquilani is fit Gerrard reverts to second striker and Yossi back to the bench, No question.

and if yossi is a rip roaring success as the second striker?

Whilst the squad looks a bit thin, having a dilemma where to fit our new £20 million signing into the team would be a welcome headache. If Yossi keeps up his form of the last few months, he deserves to stay in the starting XI.

It's not an awkward question, if it's that good , leave it as it is and play Aqualani and Gerrard in the middle.
It's whatever is best for the team. Don't assume this brilliant idea of Rafa's with Gerrard and Torres was planned , it came about by accident through injuries and not having enough strikers. So something else might just light a bulb

Nothing necessarily wrong with change happening that way.  At least it shows a manager's willing to respond to what he actually sees, rather than rigidly sticking to every last preconception he may have.

Yossi could maybe play in the kind of position Stevie does for England - line up on the left of midfield but go wandering from there.  It's been said that he's better on the right, but even if it's true I don't think the difference is that marked.

Indeed not, and who could ever accuse Rafa of rigidly sticking to every last preconception 😉

well the west ham game will be interesting, personally I think yossi will be on the bench, also if gerrard and aquaman become first choice masher would almost certainly leave in the summer.

Unfortunately there are those who will tell you that's on the cards anyway.

I think it is nailed on. Anyway it is whatever is best for the team

Masher Lucas
----Stevie

Vs

Masher or Lucas and Stevie
------------Yossi

Which is stronger?

The question was never about yossi being a better plater than Gerrard.
