WWIII Return of the Ruskie

You never have human error due to ______ (pick a reason - fatigue, anger, lack of experience, bad map etc)? Its war - its fing chaos and a ton of shit doesnt work properly (friendly fire, shelling your own forces etc).

However, I can obviously be wrong too ... maybe those giving the order, or executing it, are proper insane ... Give me a reason why they would intentionally bomb a nuclear site?
That's my point though LTW.. why not just bypass it? There was no need to shell towards it. Therefore, in my view not an accident. It was an act of aggression to take control of the plant.

We, as the population of World really.. got incredibly lucky that the reactor on fire was not in operation.

I listened to a Lex Fridman podcast with Nicole Perlroth on cyber security.

Really really interesting about how various nations and governments are using cyber warfare.
Listening to it and how Russia managed to turn the lights off in Ukraine previously makes me think twice about what Putin is doing atm.
Whys he bothering to go for this physical warfare and be made to look crappy when he could push for shutting down the grid?
Is there any info on the kinda levels they've gone to re cyber?
Nicole talks about the madness of China and Uyghur and why everyone needs to sit up and take note cos it's a pilot for what they want to do elsehwere!

As for the Saudi and UAE states and how they are using cyber to crush opposition on their countries.

The Germans practiced in Southwest Africa ... No shit this is a pilot but you know, it's just brown people and China provides us with cheap stuff, help Africa and are so peaceful compared to the US and Russia.

The thing I really disagreed with her on was her view that the US are the good guys and only use it for good.
Like gtfo here with that nonsense.

Well course, it’s not like Europe doesn’t have a long history of wars.
It’s what makes the whole oh can’t believe it’s happening on our backdoor nonsense from certain media, yes it’s all new if you peope closed their eyes everything else happened before to Crimea, Sarajevo and Kosovo.

Of course they do ... it's just war is 'televised' now and we're used to seeing wars in Africa, Middle East and Asia. This is something "new" in the media age.

Not sure I agree, I remember growing up, Sarajevo was on TV constantly before even 24 hour news channels but maybe not for millenials. Doesn’t mean this war is any less shocking though and I understand the difference between a civil war and a full on insertion. It’s the narrow media focus is obvious at times.

Lex Fridman has been a guest on Joe Rogan. Joe Rogan questioned the Covid narrative. So basically anything that Lex Fridman says is misinformation now.

"Good guys" is in the eyes of the beholder.
I think when we're long gone and our kids are doing their shit around the world, people will "miss" the US if China's in control.

People are the good guys. The US just happened to have been set up in a way that gives its people more power, more freedom and more opportunity than any other system in history. But because it's all greedy capitalism, and it's transphobic and racist and the patriarchy, the current batch of woke people who are better than the older generation, they are happy to hand power back to the president and his administration, so that he can use that power to stop racism like he promised them. You love to see it.

I don't know if we're the same age (I am guessing we are in the same range) but the first 'war' I saw live was Gulf War (that's because of where my family was living - Turkey and what was happening to expats there etc).
Now I actually know people who fought in the Balkans - but that's the closest I got to the war ... I never saw that stuff on TV (Granted, I was a kid in boarding school in England and then HS in the US etc) ... So for me, the first war I saw live - outside of my home - was Afghanistan, Iraq etc ...
War is hell ...

Yeah, I’m going on 25 🙂
Having seen a war ripping a country apart first hand and escaping to bunkers every day when shelling started, it’s horrible to see those packed train stations in Ukraine. Does evoke strong memories growing up.

Yah I've already put my kids in bunkers mate - so I get it ...
I think I remember where you're from now ... have a peaceful weekend brother.

A week after Russia invaded Ukraine one of the greatest ever mobilisations of Nato member armed forces is under way.

About 22,000 additional Nato member troops have been moved into eastern Europe, bringing military equipment with them, while at least 20 countries – mostly Nato members – are supplying arms to Ukraine.

Even before the invasion Nato secretary general Jens Stoltenberg pointed out how alliance members had begun to increase its presence in the air, on land and at sea.

Now, for the first time, Nato has activated its rapid-reaction response force (NRF), comprising 40,000 troops, including from non-alliance countries such as Finland and Sweden.

“What we have done over the last weeks and months is to significantly increase our presence in the eastern part of the alliance: in the Baltic countries, in Romania, in Poland, ” said Mr Stoltenberg on Tuesday. “We have activated Nato defence plans so we can more easily move troops throughout Europe – and we can further reinforce our presence in the east.”

Serious question...

What happens If Putin decides to go raggo and pushes the nuke. Like A decent size one aimed at central London takes out a large area and prob my family, friends and me are dead.

Like is there some kinda Iron Dome shit that'll blow up that nuke in the air? I'm sure it'll still suck but how does that work?

Woah - that's a tough post to read.

If it blows up in the air would it not be even worse? I dunno. Who knows what they have.

Bombs can be blown up before they reach the destination, but I don't think it is easy. They move fast and chances are that if a country has decided to fire nuclear bombs they would likely fire more than one, so you'd need to hit all of them.

I don't think it is necessarily worse for them to blow up in the air, but it is still bloody awful. There is still a nuclear explosion and people probably still die. The only thing is I guess that it is the end game for the country that fires the bomb as well.

They can track the trajectory of the bomb using a mathematical tool called a Kalman filter. It's like a recursive algorithm that continually updates it's best guess as new data points come in, with the aim to eventually converge on the accurate final be all end all answer. They use it in econometrics too, to track the price movements of financial assets to make the monies.

I don't mean to alarm you, but it's shit.
