Do you read anything into them? They seem to be the most pointless exercise in the world. All the players who are assured their place playing half arsed so not to get injured and all the fringe players trying too hard and not given enough time to shine in a team playing at about 60%
I don't see what teams learn.
Selected results-
Spain 3 - 2 Saudi Arabia
England 2 - 1 Japan
New Zealand 1 - 0 Serbia
Portugal 2 - 2 someone shite
France 1 - 1 Someone shite

They mean nowt do they?

They're no more or less useful than any other friendlies IMO. If international managers could get their players together more often and for longer at any one time, they would serve no purpose whatsoever (as opposed to the minimal purpose they serve even now).

I guess it's just to keep players ticking over and help breed familiarity so you're not going into the competition proper 'cold'. Also it gives fringe players the chance to impress, not that many (any?) have.

[/quote]Huddlestone was good. That's it really. Milner was fucking woeful.

$$$.

Also, it would make sense to play friendlies against countries who are similar to those you'll meet in the group stages.

Maybe, perhaps the reasoning was that Japan and Mexico are fairly technical and unpredictable, the type of teams we often come unstuck against.

I still wouldn't take Huddlestone, who to me has never really made his talent count. When the going gets tough he's neither mentally strong enough for a deeper role nor consistent enough for a more forward one. Milner's display admittedly wasn't what we've come to expect from him, but both his domestic form and his versatility mean we have to take him IMO.

We (Denmark) used our first friendly against Senegal to test the nerves on anyone slightly interested in our chances at the World Cup as Simon Kjaer appeared to have snapped something in his right knee only with a few minutes left to play.

He was almost left in tears and turned on the ground in agony but a few days later he travelled with the rest of the squad to South Africa saying that he was hopeful to be fit to play alongside Agger come Holland.

I'm rooting for Denmark. This way all I need to just log on to 6CM, check out KHL's facts, and I'm ready to impress my mates by being a know-it-all. 😀

Haha that's brilliant mate.

You'll be looked upon by many a friend as a World Cup oracle then.

*clears throat*

Anyways Denmark are playing Australia tomorrow and by the looks of it young Christian "Weshouldbuyhimnow" Eriksen is going to get his first start ever in the all red jersey.

We probably won't score that many goals however as Jon Dahl is starting alone on top in the absence of Bendtner and Larsen (whom are both struggling with minor injuries as well as Kjaer and Stokes keeper Sorensen).

The Aussies was to big a mouthful for us Danes.

One of the most dull matches ever. And the ball bounced like they played on the moon.

Only faster obviously.

I switched over to Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares at half time - which was much more exciting... and I'd seen the episode before.

Haha we were sat a few guys at the office watching and we were litterally falling a sleep.

Kuyt just scored for the Dutch.

A tap in from a save by the Ghanian keeper.
A bit of a poachers goal.

Did he tickle the ball under the gills ?

Babel on for Kuyt in the Dutch game. With his first two touches he runs into a Ghanian player and loses the ball while with his third he decides to push and chase the ball five yard past a player who he gives a three yard head start. Unsurprisingly he looses it again.
As unlikely as it is I really hope he has a great World Cup.

As I turned into my street last night a kid in a gray Liverpool shirt was crossing the street with a ball in his hands. He tossed the ball in front of him and tried to control it, unfortunately it bounced off his shin, I quipped to myself 'touch of a baby elephant'. As I drove past I looked at the back of his shirt and there it was 'Babel'.

His shitness is infectious.

You should have said -

"They're better than New Zealand...........and Ireland"

Anybody know the Holland v Hungary result.

I know The Dutch were losing 1-0 after 6 minutes, in Amsterdam !

It surely didn't end that way ?

Holland won 6-1

Netherlands just rightly tonked Hungary.
6-1

Robbem scored a corker of a second although he was given loads of time and space to get his strike away.

Elia looks like the player we all thought Babel was going to be. Strong direct and with an eye for goal. Potentially a good impact sub as I doubt if he will make the starting line up.

The Dutch are definately my wildcard pick. Great attacking potential, a manager who seems to know what he is doing with only the defense as a possible weak spot.

Holland 6 Hungary 1

They are really battering teams in their warm ups while Denmark can't string two passes together and looses games against average opponents.

They'll meet eachother in their first game on the 14th.

What baffles me however is the fact that the Dutch is still playing in Europe while Denmark's been in SA for 8 days now acclimatizing and getting used to play in high altitude.

PS If Bendtner isn't going to be fit we'll struggle to score a goal during the tournament I'm affraid unless Agger smashes in a screamer.
