World Cup Qualifying Playoffs

You should take a leaf out of khl's unfounded optimism tome Ryan.

To be honest, I think you've an outside chance of beating them. You've not lost any qualifiers - you just draw too many. A rub of the green in one game could see you through.

Like Pesam I would've had them the second team that I wanted. Wouldn't it be great to celebrate in front of Platini's face, in his homeland, if we do make it.

Greece v Ukraine.... *sigh*

Hopefully Bosnia will give Portugal a good game.

Russia looks nailed on and in normal years France would too. I'm not just sure about their strength anymore, very mediocre qualifier so far. Ireland are certainly going to be up for this. Could be very interesting indeed.

*Didn't Scotland almost knock France out of the Euro-qualifiers a few years back?

I believe it was, one potato, two potato...... but the French won the toss for it to be done in French and that's why there was a delay because Un Pomme De Terre, Deux Pomme De Terre takes considerably longer.

Via a second draw, wasn't it?
[/quote]

Thats what it was supposed to be , but when we were called out the guy said R of I home to France

Trappatoni will play for a draw in Dublin so I'll go for 0-0 there with Ireland nabbing it on away goals through a 1-1 draw in Paris (someone weird like Kilbane scoring the goal).

They might have better players but Trapattoni v Domenech, only one winner there.

A decent result at home, then the pressure is on Domenech to get the tactics right - and not many of his players will trust him to do that.

He said exactly...... 8.324

I listened to an interview with a French Journo on Newstalk (Irish radio station) and he said that drawing ireland was the worst scenario for France and the one that both players and public didn't want. They didn't want to play against a "British style" team and felt that tactically, Trappatoni was far superior to Domenech.
It was also pointed out that a number of French players are struggling with injuries and fitness at the moment.

That said, we wont start out favourites against the French but we wouldn't have done against the other three seeded teams either. But, if there was ever a good time to meet the French I feel this is it and if we really pull out all the stops, and more importantly they don't, then I think we are in with a shout of going to South Africa, which would be a remarkable achievement for Trapp, considering the weakness of the Irish squad.

It would probably be a blessing in disguise for France if they did lose to Ireland, as the French FA would finally have to sack Domenech, but I just think they've got too many class individuals. It'll be the last World Cup for the likes of Henry, Anelka and Gallas - and if they get a bad result in Ireland, the senior players will take over and decide the tactics for the home match. France to go through, along with Ukraine, Russia and (I hope) Bosnia.

i hope we can get to south africa but i fear fifa will instruct the refs that the big teams ie france, portugal, russia are to be there at all costs and there will be some dubious refereeing decisions
fifa need ronaldo, henry, ribery, benzema, arshavin, deco and all the big names out in south africa to fill stadiums and get the big tv money..blatter is as corrupt as they come and will do everything to ensure those players are there
fifa don't want our boys hunt, whelan,st ledger, some unknown bosnians and greeks with names no commentator can pronounce

well i say this to you blatter go fuck yourself coz us paddys are going to south africa

and to you snail eating, garlic smelling frogs i say this napoleon, zidane, joan of arc, cantona, sarkozy, platini your boys will take a hell of a beating, a hell of a beating (on penos after two 0-0 draws) ;D
