World Cup of the Damned

This match may not have been of the high quality that some expected of a world cup

But boy oh boy if you didn't enjoy that quarter final, I don't know what you're watching football for*.

(unless you're Portuguese or a Tory voting Mancunian then yeah I can understand)

Gerrard

“Obviously being an England fan I’m following England and Jordan from a personal point of view. I think he’s been immaculate, both on and off the pitch,” Gerrard told Liverpoolfc.com. “His last performance he was obviously man of the match, very well deserved, and he shut a few critics up that for some reason seem to point fingers at Jordan.
“Being a midfielder, being around Jordan on the daily basis, to see the sacrifices, his dedication and what he puts into his own preparation, the hard work that he puts in, I’m not surprised that he’s putting in this level of performance and I’m delighted for him.

“But it seems as if a lot of people outside the LFC family don’t need an invite to point a finger towards him so I’m delighted that he has shut a few up.”

The difficulty with Morocco is I keep wanting them to knock out the teams they are playing against, bit I hate watching their shithouse football

I'd like 1 of the 3 things to happen ...

1) Morocco wins - would be amazing (I have a lot of friends in morocco and they're sending me clips now - it's insane there right now)
2) Messi and Argentina wins - a nice way for him to end his int'l career
3) England win - Hendo and Trent lifting that would be great.

I was watching with my teenage sons when the game ended and Ronaldo walked straight off the field. I told him that perfectly sums up Ronaldo. He’s the elder statesman, the global star, the leader, and he couldn’t be bothered to stay out on the field and lift up and console his younger, heartbroken teammates.

It was all about him. If I was a Portugal player, I’d be glad to see the back of him.

Was notable that no one on the pitch looked to get him the ball. He was isolated and did virtually nothing.

It’s defensive, but compared to the likes of Greece 2004, Atletico Madrid etc it’s not particularly shithouse. They don’t waste time excessively, try to break at pace at every opportunity and when they score it’s mostly from open play. As far as counter-attacking teams go, this Morocco is one of the more watchable ones. I wish they had just a bit more quality up front to finish all these breakaways!
