Little early I know but what the hell. Has the physic octopus predicted yet? Will Torres start?

Does anyone want Holland to win? MVB constant cheating and Wesley Sneijder cuntiness has decreased my love for the Dutch. I'd tolerate a Holland win for Dirk Kuyt but I am still leaning towards Spain.

Unless something unexpected happens like an early sending off or a couple of major injuries I can't see how Netherlands can beat Spain. The Dutch defence is worse than Germany's & Paraguays and I doubt Villa, Iniesta, Pedro, Xavi et al will take long to break through.

People mention the Dutchs' impressive recent form but their group in qualification consisted of Norway, Scotland, Macedonia and some other minnow - and their opening group in this competition was Japan, Cameroon and Denmark. They beat all those team which is relatively impressive but given the poor quality of the opposition and the fact that they didn't play particularly well in most of the games I would suggest that the Netherlands are several rungs below Spain.

The Dutch have a similar style to Spain so they might cancel each other out. They will both crowd the midfield and experience spells of possesion. Holland will have to stop David Villa which is obviously a hard task. Then again, both side are flush with creative attacking players. Should be a good 'un.

(CNN) -- Paul the octopus has plumped for Spain to beat the Netherlands in Sunday's World Cup final in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The psychic cephalopod, which is kept at Sea Life in Oberhausen, western Germany, wasted no time in opening the box in his tank labeled with the Spanish flag.

Paul previously predicted the winners of all of Germany's World Cup matches, creating a huge amount of interest around the world. But this is the first time he has had to choose between two non-German teams.

Staff at the aquarium help Paul make his prediction by lowering two boxes of food into his tank, one with a Spanish flag and the other bearing that of their Dutch opponents.

The case he opens first is adjudged to be his predicted winner.

The octopus correctly predicted that Germany would beat Ghana and Australia in the group stages -- but also outwitted most professional pundits by predicting Germany's shock 1-0 defeat by Serbia.

In the knockout stages, Paul tipped Germany to beat both England and Argentina.

But the eight-tentacled oracle drew cries of despair from assembled watchers prior to the semi-final round, when he lingered over the box for the German flag before opting for the Spanish flag instead. Spain won the match 1-0.

However Paul has predicted that Germany will prevail against Uruguay in Saturday's third/fourth place playoff.

I think Spain will pass the fuck out of Holland. Holland have Sneijder who is excellent in that respect but he's the only one in the Dutch midfield who matches up. Spain have an abundance of players who are just ridiculously comfortable on the ball. Robben will be key for the Dutch. It'll take a lightning quick counter, or a flash of individual brilliance if they're to overturn the Spanish. I'm almost certain they'll need to score first, too.

They didn't score first against Brazil but I know what you mean. Spain will keep the ball if they score first. It will be an intriguing battle all over the pitch either way.

Surely MVB will get booked at some stage? Biggest sneak in world football. He could have been sent off twice already in this tournament.

Germany & Spain double it is so.

Are'nt octopuses meant to be colour blind and who thought him geography in school so he could distinguish between 2 flags? but the bastardin octopus is still right more often than not! ???

My initial thoughts were that this would be a close game and that there might be goals in it, perhaps 3-2 to Spain. Now that Paul's gone straight for the Spanish box with no messing about, I'll say 2-0 or 3-1 Spain.

hahaha, it's all very amusing.

Quite some coincidence, but amusing nonetheless. No doubt most of the tabloid readership think the fucking thing is physic.

Arjen Robben on 20th May:

Robben prefers 'nice' Bayern to Mourinho negativity
"He puts out a winning team, it doesn't matter if it's done with nice football or not"

Arjen Robben on 10th July:

Arjen Robben would be delighted to win ugly in the World Cup final on Sunday.
'I would much prefer to win a very ugly game than lose a beautiful one'

If we are in the market for a new LB then we could do a lot worse that Fucile (now at Porto) ... can also play RB so good cover for Johnson. And he's played for Liverpool before.
