Lucas back fit and healthy gives us a nice selection headache. Allen was poor against United but then again so was the entire team as a unit. I was trying to make a case for one over the other this Saturday, but can't. It's a bit of push for me but if pushed for an answer I'd put Lucas in there. Although they seem to be vying for the one position I view them as a different type of player. They have contrasting styles. Lucas is dependable and takes up great positions to neutralize threats. He is excellent at covering his wings back and keeps us ticking over. Allen is more of a energetic roamer and uses his balance to maneuver and slalom around opponents. Is there room for both? Arsenal will pack the midfield with a million little attacking midfielders.

Nah. Arsenal don't have much muscle in the midfield and Allen was boss in the few games leading up to the collective catastrophe against the mancs.

If we were playing a 4-3-3 I'd say play all 3. Lucas holding and Allen and Henderson pressing.

It worked wonders away at Spurs last year. We could do this:

Can Skrtel Sakho
Johnson Moreno
Lucas
Allen Henderson
Coutinho

Sterling

That might be one of the most defensive LFC teams I've ever seen though.

Lucas as a true HM/DM is and will always be better than Joe Allen. Allen will never boss that position off the ball.

I've gotta go with Lucas, Allen's choking vs United is a major concern for me, and the Arsenal game is now so critical

Allen apparently played very well mid week in the Euro 16. I know its only Israel.

Wales boss Chris Coleman has paid tribute to “magnificent” Liverpool star Joe Allen.
Allen was in fine form for his country in their Euro 2016 qualifying win in Israel on Saturday, a result which edges them a step closer to qualification for a major tournament for the first time since 1958.
And though goalscorers Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Ball inevitably stole the headlines, Coleman says the Reds midfielder is his side’s key man.
“Joe is a great player. He was magnificent,” said Coleman. “He’s so important to the way we want to play, stopping attacks, linking our defensive play, linking to forwards.
“He’s so intelligent, incredibly brave in possession, his awareness is amazing. He knows where to be and when to be there.
“We speak about Gareth and Rambo because they’re great players, but Joe and the job he does for us is crucial.
“We got a little bit sloppy after our second goal, we should have upped it, it was a little too easy, and we needed someone to get their foot on it and set the tempo. Joe was the man who did it.”
Allen has won 20 caps for Wales, and has recent re-established himself as a regular in Liverpool’s midfield, starting their last five league games.

Arf.

Does he play DM for Wales or as the 2nd midfielder as part of a 3 man midfield or what way do they play?
