Young Liverpool FC star Andre Wisdom denied a speeding charge.
England under-21 international Wisdom was charged with driving an Audi Q7 Quattro at 61mph in a 40mph zone near the East Lancs Road, Liverpool magistrates court was told today.
Wisdom, 20, of Holmefield Road, Aigburth, did not attend yesterday’s short hearing but the court was sent a letter from his Cheshire-based solicitors.
They indicated the defender would deny the charge and requested that the case be adjourned.
Lionel Cope, prosecuting, said a car had been recorded travelling at 61mph on Moorgate Road, between the East Lancs Road and South Boundary Road in Kirkby, by a mobile camera device at around 4.20pm on October 1, 2012.
The maximum penalty for the offence is six points on a driver’s licence.
Wisdom, who made his debut in the Reds’ Europa League clash with Young Boys in Switzerland last September, went on to make 12 league appearances for the club in manager Brendan Rodgers’ first season.
He impressed at right-back, and became a key part of the England under-21 squad which crashed out of the European Championships in Israel, captaining the side in their meeting with the competition’s hosts.
During pre-season he has figured prominently in Liverpool’s plans, being chosen at centre-half and starting the friendly against Valerenga in Norway on Wednesday night.
The court was told the case had already been listed on two previous occasions, but that problems with Crown Prosecution Service documentation had led to delays.
Magistrates agreed to adjourn the case for a trial at the same court on October 4.
They ordered the defence to indicate to the court the details of the issues they wanted considered at the trial, as well as any information on possible witnesses they wished to call, within 21 days.
