Why is Arsenal better than us?

Constantly makes top 4 and now 2 fa cups in a row. Yet, for years they and wenger operated on tight a budget due to the cost of the new stadium. To add most years their top talent is poached and their main players seem to get frequently injured.

Excellent scouting and an identifiable club [playing] philosophy. All age groups play according to this philosophy.

They're more appealing to play for because they have a settled manager, settled style of play, a better stadium, better city and as a result they sign better players. The Sanchez transfer summed it all up.

They've attracted two world class talents in the form of Sanchez who has been a revelation and Ozil who has had a mixed fortunes. Rest of their talent have been young potentials or unknowns give or take one or two more. We have outspent them quite considerably.

Because they have owners with brains, foresight and ambition.

Although they have boardroom struggles between Usmanov and Kroenke, there seems to be a genuine interest to see the club progress and not just tick over, make a profit and everybody is happy.

We are full of internecine struggles, a pass-the-parcel of blame and finger pointing with nobody accountable for the failures.

As of now, we are a shambles, a season away from mid-table oblivion and the only people to give a shit is us, the supporters.

Sheesh.

The stability as repeatedly mentioned above cannot be understated.

Peter Hill-Wood was chairman for 31 years (at the club for 51 years). His successor Chips Keswick joined as a director since 2005. Then, there's obviously Arsene Wenger who has served for 19 years. Before Liam Brady stepped down as Head of Youth Development, he had been at the club for 25 years (18 years in that capacity).

From 2003 right through to season 2013/2014 Our gross spend is the third highest in the Prem league. So the owners have spent a lot of money. http://www.transferleague.co.uk/pre...ague-tables/premier-league-table-2003-to-date

And since 2003 where would you rate us in terms of achievements - trophies, league finishes, etc?

Personally, I'd say 4th or 5th (although a case could be made for 3rd).

So the spend is directly related to teams trying to stay in touch with the heavily bankrolled teams.

They're becoming significantly better now because they're starting to supplement their squad with top class players. Before that - our lack of continuity has helped, changing owners and managers.

Agree with some posters above that it all stems from having good people in charge off the pitch. They make the right decisions, recruit the right football people and let them get on with their side of things. By contrast our quality off the field took a disastrous nosedive when Moores became chairman in the early 1990s and our ongoing troubles have all stemmed from that time. Time will tell whether FSG will put things right.

They've been following for about a decade the transfer strategy we've tried for about 2 years and everyone wants to give up on.

This - they spend a relatively low amount of money, but they largely spend it very well. Technically able and high IQ players. Ergo, very few of their investments go tits up, even if they often spend on areas they don't necessarily need to strengthen.

In recent years, I can only think of Gervinho who's been a total failure. Ozil is probably another one, but he's not been a complete dud. Definitely not worth 40 million though.

We, on the other hand, average a big money dud a transfer window. Our player recruitment is utterly utterly embarrassing.

They've always kept their players happy by paying high wages as well. Wenger obviously has faith in his picks and sees that they are well looked after.

Ozil has been a good signing for them. Yes, he's been easily marked out of the big games but he could be seen as the change in their transfer strategy as they bought a player for 40 mill that was considered in the top tier of players in the World in his position. It sent a signal to both the fans and other teams about Arsenal and their direction imho.
Same can be said about Sanchez last summer.

If Sanchez had opted for us our season could have been pretty different..

If they get it right this summer aswell they'll be challenging for the title next season.

1.) They generally haven't pissed their transfer budget up the wall, and have for the most part gotten the most out of their signings

2.) A manager that knows his philosophy, all the players know it inside out, and it isn't changed for a new system every 2 months

3.) London

I don't know what it is, but sometimes when I watch Arsenal they look on another planet to us. The movement, technical ability and interplay of their attacking midfield is sometimes incredible.

Feels to me like the faith in Wenger is paying off, and he's building his 3rd great Arsenal side - up there with 98 and 04. Wouldn't surprise me if they're challenging properly next season.

And yet, with players like Coutinho, Lallana, Sterling, Markovic, Ibe, we really shouldn't be THAT far behind them. Yet we are.

2 FA cups in ten years...

I don't know about the rest of you but I hated watching us in the champions league this season, it's not enough to qualify then look like you have absolutely no chance of winning it. That's why the arsenal fans talk about binning Wenger every once in a while when they get fed up of just being along for the ride in the league and champions league.

Things do look like they're coming together nicely for arsenal at the moment but I'm not joining the queue to suck their balls just yet.

They were looking at us in the same way this time last year and especially when we smashed them up.

Because they've got better players.

But, they've got their own issues too, and an FA Cup win or two in the last 10 years shouldn't hide from that. As well as their transfer strategy has worked in parts, it's been equally flawed in others.

Their manager's refusal (or blindness) to the defensive failings for the last 8-10 years has been staggering. They've a squad shorn of winners, defenders, goalkeepers, and defensive midfielders. And that's been the case for the best part of a decade.

They'll not win a league title or champions league under this transfer strategy so many of you seemingly admire.

I'm concerned that people on here seem to aspire to what Arsenal 'achieve'.
We are Liverpool, they are Arsenal. There is no comparison.I fear for younger LFC fans who think this is what football is about.
They have never even won the Champions League/European cup. Two FA Cups in 10 years and celebrating finishing in the top four every season while singularly failing every single year in the competition proper. Building a soulless bowl full of corporate dickheads and thinking you're God's gift is not success.
This is indicative of the culture throughout the club from top to bottom that has put one of world football's most successful, recognised and celebrated clubs on the back foot. I'm fucking sick of it.
If we continue to think that looking up to Arsenal is the way forward we will stay forever doomed.

I didn't read this, but I know I'll agree with you regarding Arsenal, so like given.
