Why are English supporters the most pitiful in world football?

I met hundreds of Croatian fans before the game with Czech (and saw thousands of them) and they were brilliant. Similarly after the game they were great and; the Czechs, Croats and locals from St. Etienne all mixed and created a great atmosphere. The Croatian fans were ALL hugely apologetic about the mindless few who threw the flares and disrupted the game.
The Croatian fans weren't exactly mindless, they knew exactly what they were doing and how it would play out.

Video going about of England fans fighting with Slovakia fans.
All the presenters on talksport saying the fans have all been drinking and bantering together and they are all amongst it.
Whats the point in all this tabloid shit.

See, we're at the point now where every little thing is going to be blown out of proportion.

If an English fan bumps into a Slovakian fan and spills his pint, it'll be reported as an attack.

I mean, if he spilled his pint he deserves to be jumped, but you get my point.

Even though he's in Melbourne?

Which is actively encouraging people to go out late at night by extending public transport all night over the weekends.

Melbourne tried a lock-out about 8 years ago - it was a disaster.

I think we reached that point years ago, and this doesn't really help matters where England are concerned.

So in other words what Tony said is the complete opposite of Ryan's hometown [emoji23]

English supporters make up only 5% of arrests so far and when you put that in perspective - they're one of the teams with the biggest support abroad it puts them well down the list. Not that I'm defending them or their actions by the way but it goes a bit of the way to dispelling the myth they are the devil incarnate.

Yeah, according to "British Authorities".

The Russians said they were off to Marseilles to wade into the Poland Ukraine game.
It's Marseille ! A fucking shithole known as a hotbed of criminal activity / gangs. It shouldn't have been chosen as one of the host cities for obvious reasons.

At the end of the day, Ryan has his opinion. He's not wrong because it's an opinion not a fact. It's got 31 pages of debate out of us.

We shouldn't waste energy trying to change it because we don't like it. Just accept it as his opinion and then decide why it bothers some of us so much.

I mean, a bloke from Ireland, living in Melbourne, has got some of us very defensive - myself included - despite my trying not to get sucked in.

He's entitled to think that. Trying to get people to change opinions like this is, I find, pretty futile as everyone just digs in.

But if we didn't, the forum would wither and die.

I'll just shut up I think!

Incidentally - this thread inspired me to make veggie soup last night - leek, onion, potato, swede, parsnip, carrot & scallion.

I might actually eat it at some point.

I've spent the last 10 days out there just got back this morning and some of the best craic we had was with the English fans.
We were singing songs taunting each other in neighbouring pubs last week and it was all done in a friendly manner with zero aggro.

Absolutely no problems from either sets of fans until a few local yoofs showed up to annoy the English fans and obviously it kicked off but nothing major it was just a small minority which had too much to drink but they were certainly provoked.
Anyways those Russians are proper fucking animals.
It's like they're military trained to hooliganism.
Colour coded so they don't fuck their own up.
Scary shit.
Apart from that it's been a brilliant experience.
French police are doing a magnificent job considering the pressure they are under from all angles.
Monday with the Swedish fans was great.
Brilliant people who sang along and laughed and mingled with the Irish all day and night.
Couldn't get a ticket for the Belgian game thankfully but they were brilliant outside the ground too.

The Russians need a long banning from traveling to support their team though and it needs to happen soon.
It's actually far worse than what's being reported.

Maybe not worse, but his point was obvious. You don't have to go far to witness drunken violence or any sort of violence for that matter, even in Ireland. It's not like there has been a major International Football competition held there to compare it to, in recent memory. The last time there was a big game in Ireland, French hooligan's went on the rampage. Guess what? They're not English.

Like the Nice Ultras, and the Russia, Portugal, Hungary, Croatia & Belgium fans who have all been causing shit this week. Practically everyone has condemned the minority of idiotic fans in France. Why aren't you bothered about this Ryan??!! Doesn't this concern you and make you want to reply to people to find some common ground between your allegation of people "burying their heads" and your over-exaggerated rhetoric about us and our nation being a disgrace, pitiful etc.

Why aren't you bothered about organised violence, trained gangs and the Ukrainian and Russian governments alleged involvement and complete, transparent condoning of fan behaviour? You probably don't want to hear that though or talk about it, because it doesn't fit the bigoted agenda of your OP.

Firstly, congratulations on continually shoe-horning in "bigot" (that's a direct quote ok?) into every post, in every thread Mark. Bigot-bingo points on their way to you.

Secondly, the nations/supporters you've referenced either don't have a storied history of crowd trouble at international football events like the way the English do, or we don't have a large presence of their supporters on this site. Given most of this site is English, I was kinda curious as to what your opinions are of your pathetic travelling supporters. Wouldn't really make for much of a thread if I'd asked the Hungarian element of this site for their own nationalist views would it?

I suspect you wouldn't like their fans either, their Ultras probably would have given you the Nazi salute though.

You need to take the blinkers off.

Leo sounds like an amazing craic! In view of what you say, if you qualify for the WC would you go to Russia? Sounds as if it could be armageddon for visiting fans

There's no way I would go to Russia for the world cup. You're likely to get the shit kicked out you then you would be the one locked up.

Not a chance.
Wouldn't even chance watching it from a hotel in Moscow.
