Who would you keep ?

Not open for further replies.
OK, if I'm allowed to pretend that it isn't really feasible to change almost an entire team, here are the players I would keep:

Mignolet (as a reserve, which he won't like, so he can go).
Clyne
Skrtel
Moreno
Milner
Henderson
Can (squad player)
Coutinho
Ibe
Sturridge (if he's ever fit again)
Origi (squad player)
Benteke

A couple of the youngsters too, like Rossiter, Flanno and Smith

But that's it really. I would happily see Every one of these players leave:

Lucas, Firmino, Lovren, Allen, Lucas, Bogdan, Lallana, Lucas, Firmino, Sakho

And obviously Balotelli and Markovic can stay fucked off.

This except Sakho

This except Sakho
I like Sakho too. Ok he had an off-day yesterday but generally I think he's decent. This "he looks awkward" argument is a load of bollocks. It doesn't matter how he looks. If that's how he looks who gives a fuck, as long as he gets the job done.

After yesterday's performance - I would see the whole fucking lot of them, and let Klopp build his own team from the sales proceed. Pathetic bunch the lot of them.

Suggesting that we sell players we bought 4 months ago is just bonkers. That is part of the problem when we're going around in circles instead of developing those with potential and coach them.

I'd sell;
Bogdan or Ming (new gk but keep one of them as a back up
Skrtel (he's a big part of the defensive problem and annoys the fuck out of me these days with his positioning sense)
Lucas
Allen
Lallana

If we got a decent offer for Lovren I'd probably sell him (but I dont think Klopp will do that)

Keep the rest

Clyne - I don't think he necessarily deserves some of the praise heaped on him but he's a decent player and consistent
Moreno - I quite like him even though I know he has his faults. He's decent / young enough to keep in the squad and in a really good attacking side he'd be very useful... hmm.
Sakho - Good defender but there are concerns over his injury record. I'd keep for another season or so to see if he can stay fit and properly establish himself.
Gomez - ...
Can - Yeah, he can be a bit brainless and all over the place but there is clearly potential to work with
Henderson - Not captain material but good enough to be in the squad
Milner - ditto
Ibe - Not good enough to be starting games for us consistently but good enough to wait on his development
Coutinho - easily one of our best players
Firmino - we need to give him a bit more a chance even if so far he's been very disappointing
Origi - Need to give him time to see if / how he develops
Lallana - We won't get anywhere near what we paid for him back so may as well keep him in the squad.
Benteke - We're never going to get back what we paid for him (I don't think) and he does score goals so I'd keep him around in the same way City had Dzeko

The problem with that list is that most of them aren't there because they're brilliant but because a) they're young and we're waiting on their development or b) they're not useless enough to sell at a huge loss.

That explains a lot really.

First Team (11)

..................... NEW
Clyne - very good defensively though worryingly deficient in attac
Matip ? - seems more and more likely unless he accepts the new deal Schalke have offered him.
Sakho
Gomez - looks to have class and considers CB his strongest position - in 2 yrs time he could be a CB stalwart. LB until a better fullback can be found in the medium term.

NEW DM
Henderson
NEW - I guess it's Grujic. If he doesn't make it then he's gone to the Squad.

Coutinho - I don't think he's going anywhere and he loves it here. Klopp will get the best out of him.
Sturridge - fingers and toes crossed otherwise see Origi / Benteke comments below
NEW - unless Firmino can start hitting his BL form and get his ass into gear for next season.

2016/2017 Squad (13-14)
Markovic - I think Klopp may find a way to develop his talent so the stay/go decision on this youngster is not pressing.
Lovren - good enough for the bench if he continues his recent run of form
Flanno
Firmino - give the poor bugger a season at least.
Bogdan - until a better keeper can be found as bench warmer
Lallana
Origi - he could develop into much more than we Originally envisioned !
Benteke - we have to give Klopp a chance, however if Chelsea do come knocking as mooted, and the price is right, then I'd take that cash and invest it in a player more suited to our style. We will however then lack a headed goal threat .. again.
Moreno
Milner
Can - currently no more than a backup but he could develop and be worth a place
Ibe - needs games and time
Teixeira - could be another Coutinho given the opportunities, maybe.
Ings - hopefully can become our super sub / backup goal-poacher

Sell ASAP
Balotelli
Allen
Lucas
Mignolet
Skrtel - age has caught up with him

Youngsters than need more time to see if they can make the grade
Fulton
Smith
Rossiter
Canos
Kent
Wilson
Oje

I'm not down for rebuilding jobs again, and we're stuck with a few of the current lot regardless of intent. With that in mind, I'd want to keep Sakho, Gomez, Can, Henderson, Ibe, Origi and I too would give Markovic another crack. Beyond them I could care less about the outs over the next couple of years, as I think Macca said Barca can take Coutinho at a reasonable price.

I still have faith that Klopp will wrangle a few of these though. He is here for a good little while, he knows it and the players probably do too, so there's only so many times some of this lot will be able to put in 5/10 shithouse performances before they're done.

We have decent support casts but very few lead actors. Insert a young Reina, Carra or Hyppia, and an Alonso and we will look completely different. I guess this is a more convoluted way of stating "We need world class players in the spine".

As for the original post, everyone is dispensable in the current squad.

A warning to #LFC under performers, in his first summer at Dortmund Klopp sold six players and let another three go on free transfers.

Is that sort of thing a threat these days?

They can either earn there money here or elsewhere... it's not like they're going to miss playing in the CL and winning trophies.

If they are under-performing here it's not likely they are going to move to a better team .... and no-one likes to see their career on a downward path.

Of the main first team squad with the exception of Balotelli, I'd sell this lot in the next two windows;
Ming
Bogdan
Lovern
Skrtel
Milner
Benteke
Lallana
Toure
Balotelli

Definitely won't be missing CL any more than they are now...😀

Bogdan
Clyne
Gomez
Sahko
Skrtel
Coutinho
Firmino
Henderson
Lucas
Can
Ibe
Ings

Get rid of

Ming
Toure
Enrique
Lovren
Moreno
Flanagan
Smith
Randall
Milner
Lallana
Allen
Brannagan
Rossiter
Tex
Chirivella
Benteke
Studge
Origi

If we sold the entire squad, I think I'd only miss Coutinho, Skrtel and maybe Flanno (although I doubt he'll be the same after the injuries).

I might reminisce about Sturridge now and then, but I doubt I'd miss him.

This is the only Liverpool squad in my living memory without a single world class player. Since we've spent almost £300,000,000 in the last 3 years, I'd very much like to punch Brendan Rodgers and each member of the transfer committee square in the jaw (except Ian Rush because he gets a bye)

Benteke has a solid record, cost £30 mill, has been here only a few months and folk already want to sell him?
Nuts.

Dunno who I'd keep. There's

I'd get shot of:

Mig
Bog
Lovren
Enrique
Moreno
Allen
Can
Tex
Balotelli

Skrtel, Lucas, Lallana and Origi would be decent squad players. If we we were to get a big offer for Benteke you'd have to be tempted to get rid.

If we got rid of them all then when we put on the tea ladies and other staff on the pitch we would see some effort despite losing. At least that is something compared to the gutless shit we witnessed against Watford by so called pros.

As for who to ship, many. Notably: Allen, Lucas, Skrtel, Moreno, Lovren.
Keep, few. Mostly notably: Clyne, Sahko, Can, Coutinho, Origi, Ibe, Benteke, Henderson, Sturridge.

Wishlist:

A center back
A defensive midfielder
A keeper
A left-back

Those wishing to get rid of Moreno remind of Redknapp hawking Bale because he was a lousy defender (and to think Benitez almost bought him.)

Well, in my opinion the two cannot be compared.
Only with the benefit of hindsight.
The point is that Bale was just as lousy as a left-back but as [yet undiscovered] great attacking player. It took an injury for Redknapp to shift Bale there, and now the former is being praised in some quarters as developing Bale. Off topic a bit but the South Africans also felt Pietersen was a lousy off spinner but failed to recognise an explosive batsman.

I'd keep Moreno, Allen and a whole host of the young "coachables." It may or may not include Benteke-- it all comes down to whether he thinks he needs to improve. Most of the old staggers, though, couldn't seemingly give a stuff.

I get the idea, I just think Moreno is thick as a plank when it comes to football, more one-footed than Riise and a bit of a shithouse. Not that it has stopped others, but yeah. Merry Christmas and all that.

Do we have to keep any of them?

I'm not saying that to be glib, I was thinking it over, & the ones I'd least like to leave are:
Sturridge (forever injured),
Countinho (inconsistently inconsistent),
Henderson (I like him but struggle to picture him at the centre of a title winning side),
Skrtel (not a top class defender but loyal & always tries his best)
And Clyne (looks a genuine talent but too early to tell for sure).

The rest can fuck off. Immediately.

Those on that list though, as I've shown, have huge faults or question marks over them.

They're our best players, & yet Liverpool can, has, & should, have better than every one of them.

Five players?! And even those have massive qualifiers attached.

I thought I was a bit harsh

In what way is Joe fucking Allen a 'Young coachable'
