Who will be first to go?

Hughes is one of those people who seems to stay in football more out of a lack of other options rather than for some deep love of the game. He always seems either bored or miserable, or both, he never seems to enjoy being a manager, his teams never achieve anything and he appears to lack any ability to inspire his players. Even breathing seems a chore to him. Maybe it's because he's Welsh.
See Steve Bruce also.

I bet the Manc pundits are really getting up Mourinho's nose. After complaining that there weren't any ex-Chelski pundits when he was there, now he's surrounded by ex-Manc pundits. I suspect that Scholes, the mumbling assassin, will be the first to make him crack.

Jose Mourinho has lost 16 of his last 34 games, Mark Hughes has lost 15 of his last 34.

Hahahahaha! They're like...EXACTLY THE SAME!

Mourinho is as shit as Mark Hughes!

Apart from the 25 trophies Mourinho has won as manager vs zero for Mark Hughes.

Way to spoil the vibe Bren. You're the sort of cunt who shouts out 'LOOK! LOOK! IT'S FAKE, ITS A TRICK!"' when a magician is doing his thing. "Hahahaha!! It's up his sleeve everyone, look, it's not really magic!!!"

Yeah, except for that analogy to work, we'd have to be sitting in an audience, having paid ACTUAL MONEY, in order to listen to someone talk obvious shite.

"ROLL UP ROLL UP! Tonight on 6CM Woland will be comparing the recent results of two managers of obviously differing ability, to the comedic detriment of the obviously better one! £10 on the door, £5 in advance. Drinks at club prices"

Yeah.

Yeah.

I was thinking of a free magic show. Like street magic.

Back on topic, I am certainly enjoying the building media frenzy.

But so far, Mourinho seems to be quite calm and controlled, and he knows his position at United is safer than it ever was at seismic and toxic Chelsea. What is always interesting is how Mourinho's own interest and engagement levels can vary, for whatever reasons.

I mentioned it here over summer, but there were some very intriguing stories that emerged from his final few months at Chelsea: a demotivated manager, disenchanted with the summer transfer activity, who simply let things slide, and didn't really appear to be engaged. Or even arsed. Does that sound like Mourinho? Maybe all the battles and years of attritional behaviour have worn off a few of his edges?

There was one report that after falling out with several players, his own medical staff, his bosses etc, he simply gave up and his usual meticulous training and tactical sessions dropped right off. Until he managed to get himself motivated for one game - possibly Spurs? - and all the old fire returned, with the usual dossiers and amazing tactical detail and individual plans for each players. But it was the exception rather than the rule?

Maybe he just can't keep it up anymore? So to speak?

IMO there could well be something in that. There's even a possible parallel with Mad Louie's pretty meek implosion in the same job before him, by stark contrast with the sound and fury of his previous managerial history.

ManU appointing two big name managers in succession who had both already passed their sell-by date? How magnificent would that be?

Makes Jenkins look a bit of a div after he gave the guy a new deal at the end of last season.

Some suggestion that Giggs is being lined up to take over. I don't know how I think that'll go. Giggs is one Manc for whom I can't help having some respect, but taking a first managerial job at Prem level doesn't seem sensible.

Giggs plus *insert experienced manager/ coach here*

I guess the Mark Hughes comparison is There just for the fun of it... However those stats are Mourinho with the most expensive teams in the league and Mark Hughes with a pubteam.

I would see that as worried stats if I were a Unitedfan, as the trend is negative. Some of my manc friends didnt like the idea of Mourinho but accepted it as they were desperate and he surely would win them the league. 34 games is not just a slightly slump in form, it is almost a full league. It is certainly not a goos stat to show for.

At one stage he appeared to be able to motivate players to run through brick walls. However, that Chelsea team practically downed-tools last season, and it seems he's already rubbing up Utd players the wrong way. He, like Fergie, used to be good at creating a siege mentality, an us against the world spirit. Now it's like he's creating an attitude of being personally under siege, from the refs, the FA – and even, by elements within his own squad. That cannot be healthy.

Once that 'special' aura goes, one wonders can it ever be reclaimed.

Giggs + Neville? Don't know which one, but if it comes off, it'll be a predictable class of '92 love in... surely?

I said 'experienced'

You know, been around the block 'old head' to give Giggs the benefit of his years of experience and multiple sackings

The papers are apparently saying today that that quietness has been Guidolin's problem this season. His training sessions in particular are said to be very low-key and haven't been helped by the fact that his English is still poor to non-existent, with the result that his players have felt ill-prepared for games.

I want to make it clear that I was saying that Hughes and Maureen are equally capable managers at this stage. I wasn't posting anything in jest, I seldom do.

Brendan, you are right to extrapolate all of the fucking shite you posted from that stat I copied and pasted.

I know you said 'experienced' hence why I was offering an alternative. That's why I put 'surely?' at the end.

I can't see it being someone experienced, perhaps Bruce? But he'd want the job himself. Redknapp perhaps?
