Back on topic, I am certainly enjoying the building media frenzy.
But so far, Mourinho seems to be quite calm and controlled, and he knows his position at United is safer than it ever was at seismic and toxic Chelsea. What is always interesting is how Mourinho's own interest and engagement levels can vary, for whatever reasons.
I mentioned it here over summer, but there were some very intriguing stories that emerged from his final few months at Chelsea: a demotivated manager, disenchanted with the summer transfer activity, who simply let things slide, and didn't really appear to be engaged. Or even arsed. Does that sound like Mourinho? Maybe all the battles and years of attritional behaviour have worn off a few of his edges?
There was one report that after falling out with several players, his own medical staff, his bosses etc, he simply gave up and his usual meticulous training and tactical sessions dropped right off. Until he managed to get himself motivated for one game - possibly Spurs? - and all the old fire returned, with the usual dossiers and amazing tactical detail and individual plans for each players. But it was the exception rather than the rule?
Maybe he just can't keep it up anymore? So to speak?
IMO there could well be something in that. There's even a possible parallel with Mad Louie's pretty meek implosion in the same job before him, by stark contrast with the sound and fury of his previous managerial history.

I guess the Mark Hughes comparison is There just for the fun of it... However those stats are Mourinho with the most expensive teams in the league and Mark Hughes with a pubteam.
I would see that as worried stats if I were a Unitedfan, as the trend is negative. Some of my manc friends didnt like the idea of Mourinho but accepted it as they were desperate and he surely would win them the league. 34 games is not just a slightly slump in form, it is almost a full league. It is certainly not a goos stat to show for.
At one stage he appeared to be able to motivate players to run through brick walls. However, that Chelsea team practically downed-tools last season, and it seems he's already rubbing up Utd players the wrong way. He, like Fergie, used to be good at creating a siege mentality, an us against the world spirit. Now it's like he's creating an attitude of being personally under siege, from the refs, the FA – and even, by elements within his own squad. That cannot be healthy.
Once that 'special' aura goes, one wonders can it ever be reclaimed.

The papers are apparently saying today that that quietness has been Guidolin's problem this season. His training sessions in particular are said to be very low-key and haven't been helped by the fact that his English is still poor to non-existent, with the result that his players have felt ill-prepared for games.
