Who misses out?

He is right now and has been for us for 18 months.

It's about time you caught up

I take it you didn't see the match yesterday then ? He had an exellent game, under the new system, which helped us largely dominate the PL champions - you can't do that unless you are firing on all cylinders.

Yeah, that's clearly why after seeing some proper play from a midfielder most people are happy to drop him
I've seen lucas play better against man city and chelsea last season. And where is your proof about most fans? Why didn't rodgers use allen there last season for swansea?

I agree he's not the player he was and he certainly looks like injuries have taken their toll but he's by no means shit. It's about time you woke up to that

He's much more Clark Kent than Superman these days, its time to look to future.

I think we are Rosco, though your view that he's been shit for 18 months is wide of the mark, I do agree he's alot less consistent than he was and he can also play like a bit of a passenger, which won't go unnoticed with Rodgers and his pressing game. I think the signing of Sahin and Allen, and the emergence of Shelvey is going someway to addressing that, at least in the short term. Our midfield looked excellent yesterday, they imposed themselves on the game and the movement was excellent, when you compare that to the static play we saw last season, it was an absolute joy to watch, there's no reason Gerrard can't play a regular part in that, we are just alot more fortunate now to cope with his absence.

I didn't say fans, I was talking about the comments in this thread.

You can't play such a limited player and expect us to do well over the course of a season. Now that we have two proper players in Sahin and Allen we can give Lucas time out, lots of it.

That's why I think this sahin move is exceptionally clever by Rodgers.

If he shows the fans that a quality replacement for Stevie can improve us he'll have succeeded in doing something extremely difficult, if he proves it to the owners he'll perhaps be able to persuade them to invest some cash into buying a replacement.

I hope Sahin starts against Hearts on Thursday. Actually I bet he will and Gerrard will be rested.

You do realize it's usually good to have different pothibilities and not just the first 11 and reserves? look at Chelsea's midfield options - Lampard, Ramires, Oscar, Essien, Mikel, Meireles, Romeu. For 3 midfield positions.

Easy...if we keep this team fit for the duration of the season then I expect us to be in the Champions League next season. Unfortunately though, Gerrard won't be able to play twice a week or even at the same tempo as yesterday once a week, so will be rested quite a lot and inevitably Lucas will then come in to the side with Allen and Lucas switching roles. Well, that's what I hope happens...

What a difference three months makes.

Which is tough on the lad, so it's a good thing we have Sahin, and it means Shelvey is going to be involved more than he might have thought over the next ten weeks

Just two weeks ago we'd have been saying this was a nightmare. Having seen shelvey perform better than ever before against premiership opposition, & quality opposition at that, signed Allen & got Sahin in on loan its fair to say our midfield is more than capable.

If by some miracle Rodgers manages to do that trick with our front line & gets rid of the players we don't need in the process then this window will have been a complete success, 10/10.

I doubt it will go that smoothly.

Perhaps not, but we're already capable of playing the way we played against Citeh. We obv.DO need to get better in certain areas, but I'm chuffed to monkeys with progress so far and looking forward to seeing what else we can get done.

Echo: Medical staff are hopeful that the damage is only minor and Lucas could be back for the trip to Sunderland on September 15.
