Where do we go from here?

He looks... "smaller." It's heartbreaking to see. The players, whatever non-injured leaders we have in the squad, have to step up. The next 2 games are backs-to-the-wall time.

The best place to start from here (no particular order) is:

1 stop unforced errors.
2 get Henderson back in midfield.
3 get injured players back to improve options.
4 stop whining about VAR.

No 1 will stop happening when 2 is in place..

However having 2 in place means having fabino and another CB.. Kabak did ok.. he just fell to pieces after the Alisson Howler..

Alisson is playing the sweeper position all wrong.. The lack of faith in his back line is beginning to show..

Gini and Henderson must be first choice in midfield..

The other options are just not appealing.. our shape is all wrong..

Midfield is the engine room.. to allow the rest of the team to play... we currently don't have this..

Keita has bite to.. but he's presumed dead

Ox, thiago can't tackle.. Jones lacks strength

Overall.. we are a bit of a shambles really, without engine in midfield..

Where do we go from here..?
I would start by selling The Ox, Origi, and Shaqiri all brings little to noting to the game. yes Shaqiri can play a great ball, but it is all to inconsistent to make him a great asset to the team.

Sell these players first and allow Klopp to bring in a player he wants

My Fellow Fucked LFC Supporters - here are my thoughts about the game:

1) I think the last 3 losses will obviously affect the confidence of the team as a whole - and at this rate I am doubtful we will make it to 56 points for the season in the PL - and now 4th is a huge doubt. Have a feeling once Chelsea get in front the will be hard to shake off.

2) One of the other drawbacks of us losing is that it gives the opposition teams greater belief in themselves - especially those that are above us.

3) Not sure what to make of Kabak after this one game. Could not really fault him for the goals.

4) As I mentioned in the match thread - with Milner off, and Jones off - we had no players with the ability to tackle or what's that word .. oh yeah 're-cycling' specialists. Oh - why the fuck does he keep taking Jones off ? - what the fuck !!!! - the only player who visibly provides some forward thrust from the midfield.

5) We played well right up until Thiago made that stupid foul - who I think is a defensive liability - he has previous - if you recall on his debut - giving that penalty away against Chelsea.

6) Potential solutions to resolving this issue -

  • We need Henderson and Fab in the middle
  • One way could be to change the formation to a 3-5-2 system where we actually play both our new defenders with one of Hendo and Fab at the back and then may be during our attacks we revert to a 4-4-2 formation, where the defenders stay in defense but let Henderson and Fab play in midfield. Its the only way I can see us bring in both Fab and Henderson into the team to a play a role in midfield.
7) If you wanted to bring on Ox, then take Thiago off for fucks sake. I also find that both Ox and Shaq do not have the near energy levels or thrust that they showed in their debut seasons. These players are clearly not at the level they once were for us ... it could be a lack of match time OR it could be just that they are fucked permanently due to their whatever injuries.

8) Advice for all - just don't look at the PL table for your own health sake.

Its painful seeing the press conferences and interviews with Jurgen.
He looks in pain, hurting and mourning the loss of his mother on top of our injury crises.

He deserves our respect and support. Has done so much for the club and will take us back again.
As Rurik said. Just be a supporter for the team. Win with them and lose with them.

Perhaps a trip back to the drawing board for Klopp and Pep to come up with an alternative?

As always, we need to set the team up to suit the strengths of who we have available.
Without the right personell this pressing game does not work more than 80%, which isn't good enough.
The semi-high line doesn't do it. We could be more patient, sit back more and counter, as we have the quick skillful forwards for it.

And we need an alternative to surprise other teams who now know our ways.

------------Kabak---- Fabs--- Davies------------
Trent-------Hendo----------Curtis------- Robbo
------------------------Firmino-----------------------
----------------Salah--------------Mane------------

More men at the back to make up for the lack of quality, apart from Fabs, players in their right positions.
Still having our fullbacks to offer width.

Oh, and stop taking Curtis off, the only lad who can offer some dynamism to the midfield.
I'd also move Hendo up for the same reason, more energy. Thiago needs to stay on the bench now.

For variation, if we have more possession, I am tempted to put Gini in for Robbo, and push Curtis out wide.
He has trickery and I imagine him and Mane could get something done.
Robbo needs a rest, and has been going through the motions lately, very predictable too in his play.

Firmino more between the lines to find more space, while the two forwards closer together so that they can support each other when countering, not all solo.

Easy this football thing. Come at me, arm-chair experts.

Fucksake, can we get some debate here?

I had to go over to RAWK first time in several years to try and get my fix, and there they are talking about us being cursed with injuries, a voodoo spell the last 30 years over us. The pandemic is part of this voodoo curse btw, depriving us of our 12th man.

It's so difficult to find a fix, because for the most part our model of play is actually working – you don't want to panic and destroy what's left of a good thing. We outplayed Leicester for 70 minutes and were undone by VAR and individual mistakes. The one thing that we know will improve the performance is more steel in midfield and more competition up front, but constant injuries prevent us from doing anything other than playing whoever is available – without Fabinho Hendo has to stay at CB, Thiago wasn't even supposed to play, but Milner's injury forced Klopp to change yet again. And Jota is still weeks away.

The only thing I see right now is just completely to embrace siege mentality. Next 2 games (Leipzig and Everton) are our cup finals. Forget tactics and squad rotation – we need 11 fighters who will give their all to win or die trying.

Should we consider dropping Alisson at this point? His head is clearly not right, for whatever reason. It might even be something not football-related.

As you said, it worked ok for 70 min, it's not just about this game though.
For several games against weaker teams, it has not been working at all.

I'd play Phillips against Everton. Fighter and his best attribute is winning aerial duels. We need that against a physical Everton side

Throwing in Kabak in the middle of our poor form was a big mistake, he needs time to train with us and learn the system and the league, I wouldn't particularly blame him for the 2nd goal, but he was unconvincing throughout, he doesn't look particularly quick or sharp. Phillips hasn't really set a foot wrong. Ideally we have him and Fabinho in against Everton.

Debate isn't allowed.

You can't say anything because Klopp's mother died, we can't risk these comments he'll never see upsetting him.

It's not a bad shout that, but we know it won't happen. As for our current set up, I'd love to see the stats for the amount of goals against us that stem from our right hand side. Trent is a poor defender, he's a tremendous player but a poor defender, Kabak was left isolated way too many times yesterday and Trent was absolutely nowhere for the 3rd goal.

Personally, I'd make one of our priorities in the Summer a right back who can defend. Push Trent into midfield and ship on the midfield deadwood.

We definitely should have kept Danny Ings, he could have been a natural successor to Firmino, he might lack the finesse of Bobby, but he leads the line well and is scoring for fun. What a missed opportunity.

He wanted regular football, wanted to leave to get it
If he'd stayed would he have got the run of games he needed?

Just a timely reminder that these players are capable of amazing things like this too...

I know hindsight is wonderful, but he'd have got games now. Origi has been dire and Firmino is struggling. I know it wouldn't have happened, but we misused him really.

Well given the rumours that he wants to move to a bigger club in the summer I wonder would we be tempted. Although I think Bobby needs replacing up top, I think I'd be tempted to drop him back into the midfield three. Maybe that would allow a different kind of forward to take up the central spot.

Midfield is where we'll need the majority of changes in the summer assuming Keita, Ox, Shaq, Gini and Milner are on their way out (in Milners case as someone who plays regularly). For that reason I'd be tempted with the idea of moving Frim and potentially Trent into that group; players who would only have to adapt to the position rather than the style of play.
