We kinda do vary formations when we're attacking anywayAvvy. We're suaully a back three of two centre-backs, and one of Masher or Lucas, with the rest of the side in an attacking mode; Gerrard usually links with one of the wide men (whichever one is up against the more susceptible full-back usually), the full-backs are free to overlap, and Kuyt gets in the box for the most part. We're not shy in involving numbers when we attack Avvy, it's just that of late we're too pedestrian in how we move the ball. Rather stoic and predictable, as opposed to this time last year when it was being zipped around everywhere.
We always revert to 4-5-1 when we don't have the ball, but then as I said earlier - every side does that. Where sides differ in how they defend depends on which of the three zones in the pitch they start their pressing.
