What have we learnt from pre season so far?

We've not even signed, let alone played all of our first choice back four in pre-season. I also expect Lallana to be a key part of the team. So it's difficult to draw any conclusions other than we need better defenders (being addressed) and another striker (hopefully being addressed).

Honestly we don't have a chance this season like last season. 4th is best we can hope for like last season unless someone step up the game and surprise us.

are you ever anything but completely pessemistic mate? I don't know why people bother making grand predictions. We'll buy to add to the two briiliant attackers we already have, in Sterling and Sturridge.

Well I am usually glass half empty until the glass is full and I will drink it in celebrations when full or two third full.

Ha ha - Seriously? Half the fucking team is missing lad! I wouldn't read too much into these games if I were you.

Half strength teams, key players missing, new teams at halftime, unfit players new signings yet to come.

What should people learn from pre season. F*** all

Agreed. Although you missed about 2 players though. Doesnt mean anything though.
You could lose 5 pre season games and then win the first 3 league games.
Pre season is for fitness, tactical training and settling new players. Results mean nothing.

The squad is much better now but like others are saying we need another striker.
Also I've seen most of the games and we have done ok few players have looked flat but that's pre season I guess
I think its great that we are 5th favourite for the league and there is less hype around us so we could do what we did last season. I'm cross we lost last night as we should have been 3 up by half time but they can have it as we will boss them in the league games 🙂
Come on you reds

I love the way we've been in decent form preseason with alot of absentees, and no one bats an eyelid. As soon as we get beat though it's true form.

We knew that we needed a striker but its a big gigantic must to get one in during the next 2 weeks.
Our season could depend on it imho.
Sturridge is fantastic but will have his injury issues, Lambert is a plan b and then there is nothing.

Spend the money and get some quality. The squad is starting to look very good but without a striker its not good enough.
One more quality striker and it looks fantastic imho.

I think we can more or less count Sterling in as one of the forwards these days. So yeah, add one more and we've got three or four players uptop who can score 15+ each.

I like some of the players we've bought so far but I really hope we're not left scratching our heads trying to figure out who to buy.

A Suarez replacement surely must have been planned for. In other words, there can be no excuses come September.

We knew needed a top drawer striker a month ago, no excuses that we have not been able to secure one.

Well, yes, there are excuses. As has been said, how many genuinely top drawer strikers, who want to move, are available? It's damned difficult. We need to get one, but it's not as if it's just down to idleness that we're still waiting.

They waffled on a fair bit last night about united but Trevor Francis made a decent point about Liverpool, we've sold a 70 striker and replaced him with a 4 million pound one.

It's nothing we didn't already know but just hearing someone not affiliated with the club say it like that in monetary terms made it seem really unacceptable.

Who's available? I'd even take David villa on loan for a month or two if that were possible just to get us a couple of months closer to the January window with half decent backup.

We've also learnt the importance of playing against good teams in preseason.
We've played Roma, City, Olympiakos, Utd and have Dortmund on sunday.

We look sharpe and ready.

Its pretty obvious we need strikers, and we know BR is working on getting a striker behind the scenes. We don't need Radamel Falcao (too expensive), we need players who will fit our system. Bony and Firmino I'm confident would add 30 plus goals between them and would cost around £40m in total. With Borini, Agger and Assaidi sold would mean a net out lay of around £10m. 3 out 2 in.

Bony and Firmino would add greater value than Rues on his own. Besides with the like of Barca, RM and Byern wanting your signature is there any point going for players like Rues?

Have we ever been linked to this Firmino guy? You have to wonder do the people in charge even know he exists, or is Rodgers just looking at this so called 'Premiership Proven' shit! I'd take Bony right now in fairness, he looks like the most likely to happen if not the only one!

Daily Star had said we'd made a bid

After watching Aspas last season and then seeing the steaming pile her turned out to be once the season proper kicked off Ive resolved not to make any rash judgements based on preseason games which are largely mosre about building fitness and getting players mentally ready for the competitive games.

That said we are clearly a man light up front and if we dont bring in another striker its going to end up costing us badly in the long run. I think people are overdoing it with the Arsenal and Utd improvements but I reckon the top two teams will be wearing blue and we are playing for 3rd in the league this season.

I do wonder though if we'd just banged down £40m on the table for Sanchez whether Arsenal would have followed suit and if not whether Barca would have just told him they are not selling to Arsenal unless they meet our bid. The extra £10m could turn out to be absolutely nothing in hindsight.

This.
I'm a bit baffled by people writing off Lambert after a few pre season games. He looks tired from the pre season training and has played a lot more due to Studges injury. We'll see a different Lambert against Dortmund imho.

Anyway, he's got about 30 goals in the last 2 seasons and created the 3rd most clear cut chances in the league, he'll be fine as our 3rd striker.

Need a new one though to compete with Studge, quickly.

Well no, a striker failed his medical. We tried to buy one but weren't prepared to give tonnes of wages to a potential crock. We also offered a load of money to Sanchez, but his wife preferred London.

There's also more than three weeks of the transfer window remaining, so it's not really worthy of the finality of the idea that we've "failed" to secure a striker.

BRodgers has said he need another striker, and we will sign one. I personally think we need 2.

but anyway, he'll sign one, but there's no way the striker will replace suarez, we just need him be a 20 goal a season striker for it to be good enough.

I think we should dig up last season's comments pre season and the doom and gloom then to see that there's no way the future can be read from this current point in time.

We'll have a more a difficult start potentially this season, and with Suarez gone, the narrative will be all doom through September. Try and resist joining the Cassandra's girls.
