Jesus Christ thats incredible considering his injuries and the genreal shitness of our team this year to mention the God awful service he has gotten. And Gerrard as well being completely off the form of old when Torres netted 33.

I really hope we can get a full season out of him soon.

Take a bow Torres, your record this season is second to none, not even Rooney.

As I've said all season long; if he'd been fit we'd be in the top 4 and still in the Champions League.

Also good to see him stay on his feet tonight.

But yes Dreamy, some record that indeed.

Imagine United lost Rooney for the periods of time we lost Torres, they wouldnt be near Chelsea, their second top goalscorer is own goals for christs sake!

Yes they would.

That's an age old excuse we've used for 2 decades now.

Imagine no Cole, Ole, Sheringham, Yorke, Van Nistlerooy, Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney blah blah blah

Exactly, as I recall mentioning when people were writing United off (unbelievably, again) because they had lost Ronaldo, teams utilize certain players a ton, and in so doing underutilize others. It's not just a matter of subtracting goals, as it ignores the fact that, for instance last season, Rooney was out of position all the time. Ferguson has consistently showed the ability to change the team to play to new strengths, and they still have a lot of depth if they set up differently.

Our losing Torres is devastating, because we've got fuck all else that is even remotely close, no matter how we set up.

Well, replacing the 42-goal-a-season Ronaldo with a 30M striker, while your other 30M striker sits on the bench is a little bit more advantageous than relying on David N'Gog.

Yeah it has been overused in the past, but who would replace Rooney's goals now? Berbatov? He might contribute a fair amount, but he wouldn't replace them and no one else in their squad has enough goals in them, which wasn't the case when the above players were at United. Infact, four of the players you listed were in their squad at the same time, so how does that argument hold water? Ronaldo, Rooney and RVN (and later Tevez) were all in the same squad too. So your point is pretty moot really.

If United lost Rooney for the length of time we've lost Torres, it's fair to say they would be worse off.

He definately has a point. But if you start looking at who has delivered best of Berbatov and Ngog this season I am not sure there is a 30 million price gap between them!

Off topic, but I doubt that.

Its how Utd play not who plays. We all said last season without "Ronaldo", this season without "Rooney".

Utd plan great football and with an 11 will always there or there abouts in 90% of the games they play. Sad but true.

If Torres was fit all season we would be fourth but after last season that still shouldn't be good enough to save Rafa.

So who's to say Berbatov wouldn't?

Hot hit what 25 at Spurs?

I wouldn't say nobody had an idea that he had it in him. I always thought he would, and I'm sure a few others on here would agree with me.

Berbatov is a different story I reckon, though.

Apologies Dreamy because I have accused you of this before but are you sure you aren't a Man U fan?

I know it is a harsh thing to come out with but whenever anything positive is said about the team you always relate it to something about the scum - its getting on my nerves!*

Hmm yes I am sure. I was comparing Torres to the best strikers out there and at the moment Rooney would be seen by most as the best.

He just happens to play for Utd.

If comparing ourselves to Utd gets on your nerves your supporting the wrong team.

17 in 17.

Just imagine if we got him fit for 60 games a year like Kuyt or Lucas.

If he goes in the summer which is a real possibilty with a 7th finish we will be in deep shit.

Best striker for LFC I've ever seen.

NO CL and the fact that we will be looking up at the likes of City and possibly Villa and Spurs, all of them can strengthen in the summer and put distance between our squads.

With no CL money and loans to pay its going to be very hard to raise funds without selling players.

Torres has said we need investment.

It all adds up to a a massive City bid for him in the summer (again) which could see him go.

Maybe just maybe a Euro Trophy and a positive run in could see him stay.

After the world cup all the big boys will bid for him thats for sure.
