So what do we need to address as no1 priority this summer?

Riise's become the best left back since Paolo Maldini since he left us.

He was fucking rubbish for large parts of his last two seasons, and rightly sold. The fact that his replacements have been shite has clouded judgements everywhere.

We should sign Felipe from Depor.
Thats what i was saying.. i think he is amazing!

him and johnson on the LB and RB would be awesome!!

Can he defend?
Crazy question that.

Well we've got Jovanovic coming in (I have no idea if he's any good though) whereas we don't have a single capable left back in the whole squad - Aurelio probably won't get a contract renewal unless he agrees to a pay as you play and Insua will hopefully slot on the bench (or even better, fuck off to Spain).
Yes we probably still need another striker but I think a new left back is at least as important.

Fuck off the manager and we will be fine.
Exactly. Well said.

New manager will have new training methods, new tactics, new style of play etc. Few players here and there and with different ideas from a new manager, who knows we might be challenging for the league next season.

It hasn't clouded judgements by any stretch - it's simply exposed the thinking (or lack thereof) behind the decisions.

Riise certainly had his failings but he was by no means our weakest link. Selling him is only half the job - if he's not replaced with better then don't start the bloody job.

Agree with most of that, but not the way it starts off. Too many people are now trying to make out that Riise's performances at the time meant it was a bad decision to sell him, period. That's some pretty startling revisionism right there.

Agree with JJ and Wiz on that.
Riise never was the best left back in the world, neither was he the best left midfielder either, but he was really useful player to have around, and given our left sided problems this year a Riise at the top of his game would have been fantastic.
As Wiz said it was not a bad idea to sell him, but a lot more thought should have been given about who to replace him with.

regards

Are you sure a new manager wouldn't just entirely rip off a different manager all the while pretending to have his own style?

The only two correct answers in this thread and in that order!!
Forget about the team these need sorting out first and foremost! Without these changes thoughts of the team are heading towards pointless

Other areas needed more urgent attention that LB. Better the devil you know Ryan.

Suppose same could be said about the manager then Pat?

The idea is to do your homework first though.

Keeping someone because you're afraid the next someone might be an even bigger failure is defeatist.

Not we the devil you know gets you 6/7/8 in the league.

I'd rather try anyone that go through this season again.

I knew it would be bad from day one but Christ at times this season its been the worst I can ever remember. I'm sure there were probably poorer games under Souness and GD but I'm damned if I can remember them after this season of total shit.

And replacing Riise at the time when other areas needed more urgent work, like the wings and up front, would be akin to changing the youth coach in the summer while ignoring Rafa.

Priorities!

Rafa's management of the LB spot in the team overall has been a disaster.

Yep. But addressing an area that wasn't broken is poor enough when other areas are. But then failing not once or twice but 3 times to get it right is unforgivable.

And sadly Rafa has a record of this in many positions.
