I suspect the club are trying to get a striker in who suits our style of play either on loan or whose value won't drop in the next season or two so we can break even when we sell them on.

I have no doubt Klopp has a list of players he wants. I also have no doubt that if they're quality players, there's no chance we're getting them in this window.

As I said before, I assume the two options they're looking at are a) a loan deal, or b) signing a player for a relatively average fee that they can recoup most of when they sell him.

They obviously feel that Long fits the second category. I don't think for a second he is what klopp or the club aspire to as a striker long term, but we do need a striker who more suits our style of play, & quickly, if we're to arrest our inconsistency this season.

I'm not a fan of that second option. We should either do a loan deal, or someone we can see fitting in the medium to long term. I'd rather not get anyone than sign someone permanently to use them as a stop gap.

Yes, I'm all for signing players that I've never seen play, based entirely on having a boss name, but I was very disappointed by Lazar Markovic, so now I try and wait until I've actually seen them play before saying they'll be ace.

My memory may be clouded by the fact he was a manc but i recall him being a lazy cunt who was always offside and only scored from about 3 yards out.

His goal scoring record is pretty impressive, and he's quick and good in the air. That's enough for me. Obviously it's not great that he used to play for United, but he also did ok at Real, and has done very well for Leverkusen(without me ever see him play for them). If he's a decent price, I'd say he's worth a shot.

Hernandez is a top class goalhanger and that's it. He's very good indeed at what he does, but IMO not remotely suited to our style of play and I don't think he'd do any better for us than Benteke has. Long is less eyecatching but IMO a good deal more likely to fit into Klopp's template.

He did but it was a tough match to judge a player on as Bilbao had their keeper sent off after 3 minutes and they were playing Barcelona. He looks fast and can pass was about all I noticed really.
