West Ham v Liverpool - Match Thread

This kind of game worries me - West Ham had really really good chances, just like Wolves 10 days ago.
So why worry?
Because it's going to be fucking hard to win 20 next year ... 🙂

To be honest i don't think we are even that good anymore. We are just relentless and suffocating.

Also, we have some of the best individual players in the league.

Notably the best full back. The best GK. The best left wing forward player and the best DM when he sorts his brain out.

Oh and an all time great in Van Dijk. I can't even overstate how important he is for us. Head and shoulders above anyone in the league and in the team. Every single cross and corner that comes in is like a counter attack opportunity for us because he basically gets on the end of everything.

I still think we could blow this if he got injured. Watching Matip and Lovren struggle against Shrewsbury just highlighted his importance.

Good win that. Alisson and Van Dijk were unreal. Hendo a model of efficiency in all 3 positions he had to play. Salah and Firmino lively and Ox has notably improved after his goal.

Nice cameo by Jones - definitely put himself in Klopp’s good books by hurrying to win possession and also playing some sharp passes. He’ll get more than 5 minutes next time.

I don’t think Fabinho was all that poor - a couple of mistakes, but some good passes and touches too. Same for Keita. We need to play them into form for the 2nd half of the season.

Robbo and Trent quiet and wasteful again - they need to recharge batteries.

Despite only starting 15 games this season, Alisson already caught up with the keepers with most clean sheets this season.
He has played nine games less than some of them also he didn't concede in the two games he couldn't finish due to injury and being sent off. So, it's basically 10 clean sheets in 15 starts.

Yeah, it's really weird and I think it's part of the reason why other fans are struggling with the way we're running away with it.

We're not blowing teams away like we were a couple years ago or City at their best. We just seem to be dragging ourselves over the line each game.

Klopp has done amazingly well to get this team achieving in the way that it is.

I think next season will be different and we will need to do some work in the transfer window to reinvigorate the team / squad to ensure there isn't a big drop.

Typical Moyes tactics, make the pitch as narrow as possible and play 5 4 1 which denies our fullbacks the space they normally have to operate, it also hampers the use of long balls, either straight or diagonally.
I thought we were brilliant tonight, the off the ball running was out of this world.
Never mind poetry in motion. We were perpetual motion. Brilliant

All in all a strange game. Played liked friendly with some quality in between. But Alison still made some really good saves so the score could have closer.

The taa moment was mad

We’re not that good? 70 points after 24 games. Thats more than our total for the 6 of the last 10 seasons, with 14 games to go.

We’re fucking boss.

I think the point is we aren’t blowing teams away like years gone by. We are just so clinical at all ends of the pitch

It is mad, and we have not been that great in any of our games. We have battled and exhausted the opposing teams into submission. Never seen football like this, we have a team for every occasion it seems, that is built for just winning.

We were pretty amazing at Leicester but apart from that I agree.

We're amazing in a different way now. We manage the game perfectly not taking undue risks and stretching the game unless needed. When we need to (against the big teams) we still have more gears we can go through (man City this year, barca end of last)

Mentality monsters
Game management masterminds

Nah even if he got injured we could limp over the line.

City have lost 5 and drawn 3 I don’t seen them winning 14 in a row in any case.

If we lost 3 in a row, the motivation it would give them and momentum can't be under estimated.

Especially with a trip to the Etihad to come and the mounting pressure it would cause, it we lost there and the gap was down to 7pts with at least another 6 to play.

Thankfully, it's an extremely unlikely scenario, but to think a motivated City can't win all their remaining games, now they have Sane and Laporte back, and with all the shite teams in this league, is a little silly.

Yes - been looking at it that way myself. What lead do we need going into the City game to feel reasonably secure. 11 points was what I decided - though that's the low mark. I'm certainly not relaxing yet - but if we can win a few more we might also cause them to shift their focus.

City couldnt be motivated to beat a shite Utd yesterday and lost 1-0 at home.
To think that they will go the rest of the season unbeaten isnt in touch with reality.

Even without VVD there is no chance we lose 3 in a row. There simply isn’t good enough teams to beat us.

Also Sane will take 6 months to be back to his best.

City are nowhere near the level they have been in the last 2 years. I would say there is almost zero chance they win all 14, regardless of our form.

Their focus is already shifted.

Who cares whether City will win the rest of the 14 games. As long as we win 8 left of the 14,i would like to see their fans reactions and listen to them fuming hahahaha and the players faces hahahaha

Missed most of the game
Came in blind drunk, ordered a pizza, saw 15 mins and fell asleep.

Remember seeing the goals but not why it was a peno or anything. Does anyone have good highlights?

Up the reds.

PS. Wtf happened with Trent?
