Trent did brillantly there. Difficult situation but he refused to give away a corner and played a less dangerous option.

We haven't really been blowing teams away recently - the last really monstrous display and result was probably the otherworldy whalloping we gave to Leicester, but we are just winning, like a remorseless killing machine. West Ham sat deep and tried to contain, and that led to some frustration, and there was a few strangely slack moments, especially in the first half, but it was typical Liverpool; another routine win and a clean sheet (just!).
Alisson (8) He wasn't exactly overly busy, but isn't that what makes a good keeper great? Not busy, then needs to make a save, then does make a save. Did his duty twice, and the save from a splendid Declan Rice header was marvellous. Hoo-rah!
TAA (6) Made plenty of forays behind enemy lines, but his usually sumptuous delivery wasn't quite there. Kept things exciting with a comical volley against his own post, and we all laughed.
Gomez (8) Didn't really seem fair that West Ham only really had Haller and the scrawny Lanzini up against the two best CBs in the league. Gomez glided around the pitch unruffled, and only had to turn on the turbochargers once or twice.
Virgil (8) Won every battle, to the extent that West Ham's players were actively avoiding him, so Van Dijk went looking for them in their half too, swooping in like a fucking Apache Gunship to scatter them.
Robertson (6) He's looked in need of some R&R, but was better tonight; a bit shaky at the start but improved as the game went on with constant overlaps. Should have scored early on.
Henderson (8) Never shirks from the dirty side of midfield duties, and always there to take responsibility and shout orders. It was great to see him snapping into tackles and then using the ball with intelligence and lovely technique, almost seems a different player lately. Had a go in a few different positions in the second half, and was the best player in all of them.
Chamberlain (6) Sputtered and misfired in the first half, trying to make things happen, but too often giving the ball away, perhaps frustrated that this run in the side has not seen him anywhere near his best. Improved in the second half, and then we saw what his lovely habit is - and what nobody else in the midfield can do - a great run and finish to make the game safe.
Wijnaldum (6) Kept things simple, with typical economy and care in possession, apart from one dozy moment later on. He was always there whenever West Ham launched a rare attack, and kept things nice and controlled. Still seems incapable of staying as cool, calm and collected whenever he gets near the opposition goal, though.
Origi (5) Lots of hard yards and beaucoup effort, but never really looked like he was going to score. Won the penalty, though, so there's that. But pretty ordinary really.
Salah (8) Thumped in the pelanty like an Exocet, and caused the hapless Hammers untold misery with his blazing pace and non-stop movement. The pass for the second goal was outstanding, and then he smacked another effort off the post.
Firmnino (7) Helped win the pelanty, and was a beacon of calm and skill in the trenches. Nearly got a deserved goal and was a general pain in the arse, as he hunted down their defence and gave them zero time to breathe.

Fabinho (4) He seems to have caught Karius's concussion, because he looks fucking half asleep. Yet again he came on, and started giving the ball away with abandon, helping create the SNAFU that led to TAA hitting his own post. Please get better, you big dope.

Without vvd (wcc semi, the Shrewsbury game) our defence is disorganised. It’s not just vvd defending that is ace but his organisational skills and lifting the players around him. I doubt we would be in the position we are in if vvd had laptore type of lay off.
This would have more clout if you weren't saying the exact opposite, equally as forcefully, a couple months back.

Another thing I noticed from watching the highlights: Mark Noble appears to be about 57 years old.

Him and Snodgrass is such an uninspirational midfieldduo. But when it comes to cheques I guess his chequebook is sound as hell.

I listened to the Echo's Analysing Anfield pod on the way to work today. The two lads had both missed the West Ham match, so, as an experiment, they did a match analysis using only the data. It was fascinating how accurate they were in describing the match - right down to identifying Robertson's chance in that they reckoned a lot of people would have thought he missed a sitter (as in this thread) but it was actually a very difficult chance (0.1 xg).
So I think the future of football is that no one need watch matches anymore - we can all have a brain implant into which match stats can be downloaded for full enjoyment.

Matches won't actually be played, just simulated, which will solve the issue with burning players out with too many games.

I'm pretty sure I've "watched" more games on FM over the decades than actual football matches.
I guess i'm not surprised given his aerial prowess but interesting to hear Moyes talk in the post match presser how they had spoken alot about making sure corners and set pieces were delivered into parts of the box VVD wasn't defending, in reference to him clearing the ball for our second goal..
Bit disappointed with TAA there to be honest. If he had hit it a bit harder he could have set up an assist for Salah, who was calling for it.
Their constant slips ups have changed my view. An opinion changing based on new evidence isn’t that outrageous
