David Bentley, yeah. Completely forgot that he exists although I really wanted him to sign for us. Where is he now anyway, West Ham?

Surprised no-one has owned up to Bentley yet, there was a major clamour to sign him.

Can't really remember to many flops that I've wanted (most of the ones I've wanted to sign did sign, and we discovered they were shit whilst they were playing for us). I suppose Rivaldo might qualify, because although he was one in of the best in the world at one point, he didn't do much after we tried to sign him.

I was convinced Stephen Schumacher would make it, thought Billy Sharpe might be worth a punt (he might still make it at a higher level...), Patrick Kluivert who turned out to be utter shit at Newcastle....

With big sam I think.

He's got talent in spades, just thick as 2 fat planks

Oh, right.

I honestly had no idea where, or if, he was actually playing.

There's no doubt he's talented.

There's also no doubt he has demonstrated a massively high opinion of himself.

Bit like Bendtner.

(But without the talented bit).

???

Well, turn back to page 3 of the thread and you'll see I put my hand up for him days ago.

Charles N'zogbia.

Actually i didn't want him badly. I just said he would be a better signing at whatever price he was eventually sold than Downing for 20m. Looks like he is set to prove me wrong even then...I would have preferred we bought someone who wasn't already playing in the Premiership and proven to be an average player.

I was also of the Bently persuasion, though I argued I'd like him converted into a deeper lying midfielder rather than a winger.

I really wanted us to sign Totti some years ago. I always thought that would be a dream signing....

But judging how Italians have been with us, I guess we would have been left dissapointed!

Keirrison. Signed for Barcelona about 3 years ago, and I was gutted - though he'd be the dogs bollocks. He's never played a single game for then, and has been loaned out to Benfica, Fiorentina and now back in Brazil on loan at Cruzeiro having not played brilliantly at any of them.

Milan Baros, I saw him when he was 16 or 17 in the milk cup I think and thought he was super. I was delighted when he signed but he just didn't turn out to be particularly good for us.

Where are all the Quaresma fanatics, I distinctly remember several people wanting the useless stepover queen.

Actually, I wanted Anton Ferdinand based on the same logic

I know you're busy mate, so don't bother putting yourself out for me.

Mine has to be Julio "The Beast" Baptista.

I thought he'd be great for us after watching him smash 60 goals in for Sevilla. He was harshly treated at Real Madrid initially (as he wasn't overly fashionable) but when he got the opportunity at Arsenal he looked absolutely lost. A good player but didn't develop into the star I thought he could be and perhaps unsuited to the league.

As for Joaquin, I'd still have had him with the benefit of hindsight. Even with the smoking habit and dodgy attitude he'd have been a good wide option for us consider the alternatives we've tried out there in the last five years.

Like Arshavin, Baptista saved his goal-scoring for us.

The cunt.

Simao, or more recently Davide Santon, in his first season at Inter. He's looked fairly terrible at Newcastle.

Just saw this on Tim Vickery's column:

Q) I read a story a couple of weeks ago regarding Keirrison's future, with his agent stating he would favour a move back to Coritiba.

When he signed for Barcelona for €14m in 2009 he looked a real prospect. Would be interesting to hear your take on his career so far. What went wrong? Will he ever fulfil his potential?
Nick McKuhen

I've been wrong countless times in the past, but this was one where it wasn't too hard to get it right. He was nowhere near ready for such a move at that time. He was a front to goal right footed finisher and nothing more.

There is plenty of time for him to come again, but it's not easy for a much hyped young player to come to terms with the fact that he is not as good as he has been allowed to believe.

Mine would be SWP.

I'm usually quite good at this. PaulGorst has had some stinkers though.
