Jürgen Klopp expects 'proper team player' Takumi Minamino to make a seamless transition to life at Liverpool after sealing his move from Red Bull Salzburg.

The Japan international will join the Reds on January 1, 2020 having completed a medical and signed a long-term contract with the European champions on Wednesday.
He will arrive at Anfield having won the Austrian title every year since he moved to Salzburg in 2015, scored 64 goals in 199 appearances, and caught the eye of the continent with his performances in this season’s Champions League – including a strike against Klopp’s team.
And the Liverpool manager believes Minamino’s development at Salzburg, where Naby Keita and Sadio Mane also had spells earlier in their careers, makes him well-tuned to the requirements for the Reds.

“This is fabulous news – a wonderful signing. We are really, really happy about this,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.
“Our supporters have had the chance to see him close up recently so I don’t need to sing too loudly about his qualities as they are already known.
“Takumi is a very quick, very clever player, he finds space between the lines. He is brave with the ball but also brave without the ball – a proper team player. He makes the best of himself for the benefit of others.
“His Champions League experience is a big bonus and coming from the club and organisation he does, we know he’ll be well coached, used to an elite environment and had all the right experiences.
“It is fantastic work by our football operations team in how they’ve handled this transfer. Michael Edwards and the team deserve a lot of credit.
“It’s not hard to see why Salzburg is a favoured destination for players with real talent and hunger. From our experiences dealing with, and facing, Salzburg on and off the pitch in recent months, their reputation as a benchmark modern European club will only grow.
“I’m sure all the Liverpool supporters will go out of their way to make Takumi feel at home in our amazing city and club.
“I am also pretty sure as of now we have added to our numbers of the LFC family in Japan specifically. For those who follow us now because we have one of the country’s most exciting talents, I say welcome – it’s a special club to be part of.”

Oh , so he'd be registered for January 1st and available for the cup match against Everton.....

Vvd repeat ?

Yes and yes.

A free hit of a signing really but I think he’ll add more than the rest of the fringe players in the next 5 months.

No18 surely?

Takumi Minamino will wear the No.18 shirt for Liverpool.

The Japan international is set to join the club on January 1, 2020 after an agreement was reached with Red Bull Salzburg and the 24-year-old completed a medical and penned a long-term contract at Melwood.
The No.18 was vacated by Alberto Moreno last summer and has also been worn by the likes of Dirk Kuyt and John Arne Riise for the Reds in recent years.

Kinda funny seeing the club post content from his performance against us

Great signing, even in the unlikely event that he's a total flop he's cost next to nothing.

Given the normal trajectory of Klopp signings it's hard to imagine him fitting in until the start of next season. Good performances before the end of the season are a bonus as well as giving players a rest.

This is an amazingly low risk signing.
  1. He comes from a system much like our own where hard working 'good boys', to use Klopp's term, are put in the service of a high intensity system.
  2. He's been playing like a baws in the Champions League, as well as having a strong and improving record in his own league. It is his time to shine.
  3. We've been following him for years and years-- this isn't a 'we'll buy him because he played well against us' scenario
  4. That said, when he did play us, how many of us were scared every time he was on the ball? He was fucking a bundle of between the lines mischief
  5. He's costing a spare change down the sofa fee.

If he can harry the opposition when they've got possession and bring the ball forward confidently then he can fill in for Fabinho. Minamino seems the ideal candidate for the harry/carry role.

Fabinho?

Since I started posting on this site player wise he is all I have been talking about signing...

(In the voice of The Rock, Dwayne Johnson) Finally, Minamino has come to Anfield...

Now all that's needed is a quailty centreback who can stay fit, and a quality striker that can play any where a cross the front three

Who said anything about boorish or violent ?

I've been to Japan a few times and I know their culture very well.

And btw I was messing a bit too. Of course not all of them are the stereotypical Asian with their Konicas and Kodaks hung around their necks. That's so 80s.

I'm going to Japan this May. Hopefully this means local hostelries will be more likely to be playing LFC games whilst I'm there. Actually, what time will a 3pm kick off be in Japan?

It’s a bit silly that he won’t be available for the Sheffield United game given the deal is wrapped up
