Ashley Young rumours applenty.

I'll go with that.

Where did you hear this mate?

Ok ok ok.. Ill let it out then. Its Simao. Now... There I said it. He will certainly join later this month!

PS! I just had to say it as we have been linked with him every fucking summer since 1993 or so and luckily he still hasnt arrived. So no links this summer actually scared me a bit.....

I'd be fucked off if we spent £20m on forlan. Young is not worth that imo. Silva is at least worthy of the price tag. Duff wouldnt be a bad squad addition for the price. If we get £6m for Voronin then we should double Purslow's wages and push for knighthood!

I've no idea what Silva has done to warrant that price tag. It certainly doesn't seem that the Spanish giants have had any interest.

Barca were linked a few times although not sure if that continued into this summer.

Oh and i'm still not sure i'd want Silva. But then i said torres didnt score enough goals before he joined!

let's be honest here for a player to fulfill everything we want and need they'd be out of our price range i.e.

score a shed load of goals
create a shed load of assists
go past defenders at will on the wing
play anywhere in the front three
be strong enough to take to the PL like a duck to water

that's what we want, a player like that would cost at LEAST 30 million

I wonder if Athletico would give us Aguero if we batted our eyelids, and said, "pwitty pwease Mr".

Like the £30m we just got for xabi then?
[/quote]
Good point English Gent
Johnson the change from Keane
Aquilani from this seasons transfer allowance
Neils £30m from sale of Xabi

Yanks still pocket proceeds from other various sales

Everyones a winner

I'm sure this has been done but...

We normally get £20m odd to spend (lets for understatement say that includes the £10m we got back for Keane in Jan).

So we start with £20m.

We add £30m for Alonso and £3.5 for Arbeloa. That gives us £53.5m.

We've spent £5m up front on Aquilani according to "reputable" sources. We paid £10m for Johnson (writing off the £8m Pompey owe us on Crouch). So our net spend, not including any minor purchases is around £15m.

That leaves us with around £38m left. Plus any other sales we may make (Dossena, Voronin etc) before the window closes. It appears, that we do have money to spend (well to me anyway) and that a buy of Villa or Aguero proportions is not totally out of the question. Albeit at £35-38m in today's transfer market we'd have a steal for either of the above two.

Thinking like that is going to get you disappointed.

Oh yeah its very simplistic but how far from the truth is it? I realise that Aguero or Villa is unlikely but its not "totally out of the question" and therefore a £20m+ purchase is imo very likely.

But I'm pretty pragmatic even given my "optimist" tag.

Would we have had to pay off Keane's contract when we sold him to back to Spurs? That would have swallowed up most of the fee received wouldn't it?

Surely not. It wouldn't be worth selling him otherwise. If that was the case the club may as well have retained him and used him.

As far as I heard both clubs broke even across those two transfers not including the wages received while he was actually here.

How do you mean broke even ? We got our money back ?

I just wish those fucking yanks would put their money where their mouths are and sanction a massive signing. and before anyone says they are putting their money where their mouths are by paying off 60m of the debt, its a debt they themselves created by owning us.

OK so really, last year we spent feck all on transfers. This year we've brought in money from selling Alonso, Arbeloa, Leto etc.. and laid out about the same. That's not encouraging albeit the transfer window's not shut yet.

They did back Rafa for Torres and Masher etc, but we've not seen a penny out of them this summer so far, all been covered by sales.

Laid out the same as we've sold? If that's what you mean I don't think we have. The Johnson deal was £10m from this year's money, writing off the remaining £8m on Crouch. Aquilani deal is apparently structured with £5m up front this year and the remainder in instalments and add ons. So our spend is about £15 so far of actual cash this window - believing what I've heard.
