WC Play-offs

On another important note... Senegal beat SA with an assist from Mane and a OG caused by him as well....

So I think that’s them qualified...

So hence he will not actually need to play the second game...

Or at least that’s the phonecall that I would be making to the Senegal FA if I was Mr.Klopp who had been deprived of a key player for 5 weeks due to the Senagalese FA.

And yet Switzerland needed a grotesquely awful decision from the referee to beat them. If your boys go into this game thinking it's already won, it may not be.

Never a pen but even I expected a lot more from NI. Not a shot on target.
We were miles better and could have scored a couple.

Its not done yet but i cant see them scoring a goal

Zakaria looks a talent. Xhaka, Shaqiri and Rodriguez are decent as well!

Makes you wonder, where would Switzerland be football-wise without immigration..

Unlucky lads.
You made a great go of it in the second half and you can hold your heads high.
If you had the luck of the Swiss you may have got something from the match

So that peno then..

Norn Iron really held their heads high tonight, seems a much better team at football than Ireland..

State of the pitch probably helped N.I. Shame they couldn't force a goal. Reckon the Swiss would have shit it.

No justice after the hand of prod incident.

How did your brother feel about it? He's an ex-NI international after all.

NI only started to play in the last 30 minutes of second leg. Shame they didnt do that at home
Too little too late.
We were clearly the better side over the two legs, our shit strikers made it difficult for ourselves but we re through, mission accomplished.

You were without a doubt the better team over the two matches fielding better players, however it's still highly annoying for the neutral that the tie was decided by another awful decision by a ref.

The moment someone dares to introduce some kind of in-game video-ref the game will improve no-end despite what minor hick-ups it'll bring along.

Anyways good luck at the WC, I hope we qualify too and end up in your group.

Always surprising how the Swiss qualify are ranked around the top 10 but more often than not bomb out in the group stage or q/f

It's only surprising if you attach and sort of weight to the Fifa Rankings. Rankings which place Poland as a top 6 side.

Well done Ireland.. utterly frustrated with our lack of invention to break up your stubborn defense.
We only know one way to play; we work hard, fight for every tackle, defend like demons and eke out the odd chance or set piece. In nearly 50 years of watching Ireland I have probably seen only 3 or 4 games that could genuinely be called entertaining. That said, for us Irish, we get our kicks by watching our "plucky underdogs" over perform and the excitement is always there because of what's at stake. I would never recommend any neutrals to watch us.

KHL, you'll find out a lot more about your own team on Tuesday because they're gonna need to battle for this. If the Danes can match the Irish for tenacity and physicality then they will progress because they have better players.

I can see this going one of two ways; in the first scenario it's another tight game with few chances and 0-0 after 80 minutes..........Duffy scores from a set piece and Ireland hang on despite a late Danish onslaught. Second scenario, Danes score in the first half, Ireland equalise late on but can't force the 2nd goal they need to qualify.

I won't wish you good luck but......may the better team win.

I have absolutely no problem with the way you are setup and play to be honest, as you say, you are only playing to your strengths and obv wearing your hearts on the sleeve. Have actually even enjoyed some of your "battles" before as it's always fun to see for how long a honest, stubborn tough-fighting underdog can hang on against vastly superior opposition like Germany, Spain et cetera.

My main frustration with the first leg was because of our dire tactics planning to beat you at your own game so to speak, being all physical and direct (long balling). We were hoofing as much as you lot and tried to make it a mostly physical contest throughout. That's kinda not our main feat despite the team being rather physical strong at the moment.

I am not overly confident about tomorrow and there are more than a few dodgy players in our setup still with Kvist being the major culprit that I don't have much faith in. He's becoming a Lucas for me in terms of managers sticking with him despite the obv better alternatives.

However if we play Yussuf and Sisto with Eriksen in behind a striker (don't care much about who's picked there as they are all a bit much of a muchness) and sub Kvist with either Christensen from Chelsea or Schöne (an Ajax playmaker) we'd instantly increase our chances as we'd then be able to string more passes together even in the tightest of areas on the final third and we wouldn't have to hit as many Hail Mary's as we did on Saturday either.

Either way I am bricking it, really hoping that we progress but as you say may the better team win.

Prediction; Pretty much in agreement with your scenarios, if you score first I think you're heading to Russia, however if we score first especially if in the first half we could actually go on and score a few more. We are for all of our limitations not a fun team to have to attack against because of the speed and the vision (Eriksen) on the counter.

Your boys had 3 or 4 good chances. We had maybe one. It's a toss up in Dublin, as I reckon you'll get at least one goal. Whereas we'd struggle to score on a team of u11's at the minute.

Our 4rd World Cup on the bounce and we made it to last 16 in Brazil and last Euros losing AET against Argentina and penos against Poland repectively.
We won 9 out of 10 games in group, shit group ok but still.
A top 10-15 FIFA ranking is quite logical, we've been quite consistent in the last 15 years.
