Back to VVD. I can't wait to see him put in his first huge tackle against a rival. I am hoping it will be one Lukaku next month and one that sends him flying like a ragdoll.

I'm looking forward to his first rocket free kick busting the net and sending the Kop into raptures.

I think it was Kewell who in his first game against United put in a huge tackle on Gary Neville and sent him over the advertising boards. Bloody fantastic, need one of those in the next United game to send Jose loopy. Lovren on Pogba would be equally delightful.

I enjoyed the Carra tackle on Nani at Anfield.
Oh fuck yeah - That's the one that made him cry! LOL - I remember even Rooney walked away muttering 'He's fucking crying'! Oh that was a great game. Was that the one that Suarez pulled Fabio's hair and got away with that too?

He very rarely needs to, cos his positioning is so damn good.

I was unsure over the huge price tag, but at the moment he looks like a fucking bargain.

There were a couple of times where he was the last man with an attacker bearing down on goal. He doesn't panic and just kept pace with the attacker and waited for him to make his move. Mostly he was just striding along and the composure he has was great to see. He will then casually put his body in front or just kick the ball out totally nullifying the situation. A welcome change from the likes of Lovren who would have thrown himself at the attacker.

TBH I don't care if he isn't a bargain. Just keep playing as he is now will more than do me and well worth the money. Superb buy.
I agree he's done well in 2 months we've had him, and long may it continue

It's just dramatic to say he's a bargain, when he's the most expensive defender in the world and played a handful of games

It was even more dramatic before he signed!! 😉

I did preface it with "at the moment", I could have said "if this form continues" instead. Because honestly, if he carries on like this for a year or more that fee will look every inch the bargain.

If we'd have had another couple of brilliant CB's he wouldn't, of course, but for us, having been starved of quality there Sami played for us, I stand by my statement, he's made that much difference to the entire side, the midfield has been on the back foot less often, & have been able to support the attack & get them more space, the full backs have the licence to roam without it costing us, whoever he plays alongside has improved by a margin that is noticeable, & I dont think that Karius improvement has been just due to getting a run of games, but having that presence in front of him.

There's also his aerial threat nullifying opposition corners & making a huge difference to ours as well, plus that swaggering run he makes into the opposition half before pinging balls about like a quarterback & playing slide rule balls through the midfield to back up the attack when we need to switch it up a bit.

Agree on that point - i'm talking more a game tone setting huge hit in a 50/50. I think he could break a man if he fully committed.

I love the fact he isn't diving in when the last man a la Lovren. But I am just excited for his first half way line 50/50 that topples Ander Herrera.

Good call. It would be great to see at any time but that little weasel would make a particularly satisfying target.

He's nowhere near a bargain yet, let's not get too excited

He surely will never be considered a bargain at that price regardless of what he goes on to achieve.

He will always be the most expensive defender in the world by a huge margain at the time he signed

Definitely.

We get that level of service from van Dijk I'll be elated

Very true, alot of their big money signing were shrewd because they bought players on their way up and overpaid for them. But a year or two later as the market keeps inflating and the player improves they looked very good investments. I think Mane and Salah are clearly bought with that philosophy in mind. VanDijk could be that bracket of signing along with Keita in a year or two.
