Lucas, whilst he may not be the best, he does have a presence in midfield and does some good dog work.

I see adam as a stop gap till gerrard returns, when gerrard returns you can then have lucas covering gerrard's runs.
in an ideal world I would want a holding midfielder was the strength and pace to protect the defence and join the attacks, we don't have this and I certainly don't see jonjo as this player. I think if jonjo partnered gerrard we may be good going forwards but we'd get killed going the other way.

That's largely dependent on opportunity, and everyone is attacking us straight down the middle because we're shit there. And note our shite defensive record with Lucas in the side over the last couple of years (along with our beautiful attacking fullbacks)

If gerrard's not back then I'd probably have spearing plus another, since spearing seems to be the only one available that can actually move faster than a snail.
True, but the lack of movement from Adam and Lucas is frustrating. Lucas seems to be good at looking busy (albeit slowly) without actually doing anything.

Well I don't agree with that Lucas comment George but yes there is a lack of movement in midfield I agree and there's going to remain one until Stevie comes back seeing as we sold Meireles. Doesn't matter what combination without Gerrard you use the useful movement is going to be lacking until he returns. Adam slows our game down considerably. I've said it a couple of times. As for Spearing - where was he the second half on Wednesday ?

I think Lucas and Adam would be ok if they had a battler infront of them, so far they've been left playing flat in a two when it's pretty obvious neither are suited to that. When Gerrard comes back it'll probably look alot better in that respect. Maybe playing Kuyt there for now could work?

I think they'd be fine in certain matches. They were excellent together for spells against Sunderland and Arsenal and the entire 90 minutes against Bolton.
