Voronin to Hertha Berlin

Voronin is a tidy link up man, he's proven that at Liverpool and it often goes unmerited.

But the bottom line is we needed goals... and he's our replacement striker... and he scores none.

He was a free transfer Mors. It seems fashionable to slate him because of the things he's said in the past and his crap hair. He didn't do alot wrong when he came on but was still one of the scapegoats.

Granted, but he was free for a reason.

He didn't do a lot wrong, but he didn't look like he could win the game or turn it. He does get singled out quite a lot, cos he's pretty crap to average quite a lot.

We need to be bringing someone off the bench that could have turned or wont he game for us if we're up a creek, and players like Voronin and Babel are incapable 99% of the time.

I know it's been done to death, but Owen seems pretty happy sitting on the bench at the scum, and I'm pretty confident that someone like that could win you or turn a game, but Rafa's not interested.

Unless we're resting one of our key players like Torres/Gerrard/Kuyt - we don't really have any options on the bench if we're chasing a game.

It's a hellish time to be in the squad if you're not the finished article these days. Even Aldo was complaining the other day that N'Gog looked 'like a ballet dancer'. I mean, what? So did Henry at the same age, ferchrissakes. Talk about leaving no turn left unstoned.

I hope Voronin never ever plays a single minute for us again. He is simply not good enough.

Aside from one hopeless, hopeful punt into the box yesterday in the dying minutes, what did he do wrong? He was busy, linked up well and played a few intelligent through balls.

If Carra had looked along the line of defence to beat the offside trap we could have pulled one back.

I agree, Vorinin as least trued to use the ball intelligently last night. He tried to slide the ball into our attackers feet and tried to put the ball into dangerous area's. Yes his last punt was terrible but that summed up the night.

Obviously I'd like better but it seems it is the norm now to hammer Babel, Lucas and Vorinin whilst ignoring the rest of the team was equally bad if not worse.

Completely agree with Mark & ILD - I thought Voronin was probing intelligently and only played one poor lob - which even Gerrard does from time to time so no-one is immune - which I thought was out of desperation near the end of the match.

We know we have some just average to good players, however as I said earlier Torres & Gerrard are nowhere near the level we expect of them. If they were to step up then the team as a whole would reach the next level.

Well, I agree with jimmy, and Froggy's final sentence encapsulates one of the main reasons why. Even the best have barren days/spells, and when those come along the others have to step up to the mark. Voronin - and I accept he's not alone in this in our current squad - is just not good enough to do so. He's not completely without ability and some of the criticism he sometimes gets is over the top, but he is not nor ever will be good enough for us.

Voronin did alright when he came on and we suddenly looked like we had more of an attacking threat particularly through the middle. So far this season, Torres has seemed a bit isolated and he's looking fed up with it. He just bears the brunt of all the shite from the centre backs and its no wonder he's getting wound up. He looks far happier and effective when he gets free of them.

I'm not sure whether you're advocating playing someone else up front with Torres on a regular basis, presumably in a 4-4-2. If so, I don't agree. The reason Torres is getting isolated is that the rest of our play isn't good enough (yet), and that won't be improved by changing formation. Last season Torres was happy enough - and dangerous enough - up there by himself, taking on the opposition CBs largely on his own, when we were playing the best football in the league.

As for Voronin, I didn't think we looked that much better for his introduction last night. He's a canny player and put one or two nice balls through, but it just wasn't enough, and he himself was never going to pose a direct threat to the other lot. In the current circs.I can understand Rafa not letting him go on loan to Hull or whoever (we'd lose a player without getting the cash to buy a replacement), but it remains my view that Voronin isn't what we need.

I agree with JJ and Keni. Voronin is not good enough for us. He is not quick in his movements, nor in his thought.
When he came on as sub, both last night as well as in the previous games he added to the congestion in our central attacking positions. As Keni said, I'd rather plat N'Gog than Voronin, as he may still develop into a PL player, while I'm afraid Voronin never will.
I hope I'm wrong, but I fear that if Voronin is our attacking option from the bench we won't do very well.
