Sorry mods, I know Skully posted this in the sunday papers thread. But it's now been confirmed by the player himself and Herthas general manager that they are in talks about a move, 3 mill £.

Hopefully we'll see a quality back up for Torres come in..

Sorry Doc, it's in Norwegian, but it's from Bild.

Surely this says Rafa must have someone lined up? He is our back up striker (sadly), we'd be mad to sell him without a replacement lined up.

Here's the surprising lucid (right context for that word? Perhaps not, but cant be arsed thinking, too early) translation from Google:

Voronine in talks with Hertha
Andriy Voronine is in talks with Hertha Berlin on a £ 3M-transition from Liverpool. It confirms both the player himself and Hertha manager Michael Preetz to German Bild.

I hope so, I bloody well hope so.

Not my fault is it Jon, he said prove it and I did ;D

You lot really need to learn this international language....

The original article is online at Bild

The suggestion in there is that it will take €4M (£3.3M) to buy him out of the last two years of his contract.

If true - that suggest a £65k/week salary.

Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin is reportedly set to make his move to Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin permanent in a €3.5 million deal.

The Ukrainian spent last season on loan in Germany and enjoyed a successful spell, nettting 11 goals and finishing the season as the club’s top scorer.

Whilst Hertha were hopeful of making the signing permanent at the end of last season, talks broke down and the striker has since returned to Liverpool.

However, the News of the World reports that the German side have recently contacted the Reds and are now willing to match their €3.5 million valuation of Voronin.

This is from News of the World.

I'd like to think with the £10 mill still not spent from Xabi, and this money, it will be put towards a decent striker. If serious about the league, an extra few mill should be thrown in. How many points did we drop last season with Torres out, lets not go down that road again.

so who is out there for us to bring in??

I think we need to be looking for someone with a bit of aerial prowess, especially with the likes of Johnson and Riera able to deliver good crosses.

I agree with most of that.

Dean Ashton

Be quiet.

Ashton looked a good talent for a short space of tine but injuries are threatening his career.

Realistically there's nobody I'd take from West Ham team.

I'd take Upson and Collison. Green too I guess.

Are you American?

I hope Voronin never ever plays a single minute for us again. He is simply not good enough.

Hertha Give Up Chase For Liverpool’s Andriy Voronin

The general manager of Hertha Berlin, Michael Preetz, has indicated that the Bundesliga club have no option but to forget about chasing striker Andriy Voronin because Liverpool have no intention of letting the player leave.

"We have been talking to Liverpool and Rafael Benitez, but we have to stay realistic," Preetz told Spox.

"At this moment they do not only refuse to give Andriy another loan spell away from the club, they do not even want to sell him.

"The fact is that he is getting match practice at Liverpool and it looks as if we have to forget this possibility."

Voronin had a very successful spell with the German club last season, making 23 league appearances and scoring 11 goals.

Aside from one hopeless, hopeful punt into the box yesterday in the dying minutes, what did he do wrong? He was busy, linked up well and played a few intelligent through balls.

If Carra had looked along the line of defence to beat the offside trap we could have pulled one back.

I agree, Vorinin as least trued to use the ball intelligently last night. He tried to slide the ball into our attackers feet and tried to put the ball into dangerous area's. Yes his last punt was terrible but that summed up the night.

Obviously I'd like better but it seems it is the norm now to hammer Babel, Lucas and Vorinin whilst ignoring the rest of the team was equally bad if not worse.

I suppose we're just spoilt with Torres, and compare Voronin to him. We see Torres that is good at virtually everything, and then there's Voronin that's good at............errrr..........
Pretty big boots to fill.

He was a free transfer Mors. It seems fashionable to slate him because of the things he's said in the past and his crap hair. He didn't do alot wrong when he came on but was still one of the scapegoats.
