Voronin holds Benitez talks

Liverpool's Andriy Voronin has held talks with manager Rafa Benitez over his lack of first-team football, according to the striker's agent.

The Ukraine international returned to Merseyside for the start of this season after spending the last campaign on loan at Hertha Berlin. Voronin impressed while in Germany and Hertha were interested in a permanent deal, but the forward opted to go back to Anfield. However, the 30-year-old has failed to earn regular chances, with David Ngog the preferred back up to Fernando Torres, and he has discussed the subject with Benitez.

Voronin's representative, Andrey Golovash, said in The S**: "Andriy has discussed his current situation at Anfield with Rafa Benitez. The manager doesn't argue about his good form but his position is still the same. He told us, 'all is fine, just wait your chance.' Still Voronin has no intention of leaving Liverpool. He wants to play and prove he can be useful for the team."

Fresh interest has emerged from Hertha, but Golovash maintains that Voronin does not want to return.

"Andriy is not interested in a move to Hertha. We are not even considering that."

2-0 win against the bitter rivals after a 4 game losing streak. 5 minutes before hand Utd almost equilised but hit the bar... surely that is something to get excited about. If that doesnt excite you then you shouldnt be anywhere near the starting 11.

Hate him all you want, he is a mercenary, but he also wants to play. He's also not quite so awful as everyone seems to think. It says more about the rest of our squad than it does about Voronin that I think it's neccesary, but Rafa will hopefully blow smoke up his arse to get him to tolerate the situation.

He was very decent in Germany last year with a run of games and confidence problem is he'll never get either with Rafa.

He'll never get either with Torres. That's his larger problem (not ours). That and the fact that Benayoun can do link up play better than him, without shitting out of every single tackle, and he's not going to see much play. We are so thin though that why not keep him on unless we can improve.
