Don't know about you, but I am really excited by this link. Verthongen is one of my 2 favorite CBs in the Premier league and he also fits the type of a versatile, technically excellent and physically strong defender who can play anywhere across the back 4. He is left-footed, but with his technique he should have no problem fitting in at RCB.

Also, how good it would feel to take a top-class player from Spurs because we made the CL at their expense?

The good thing is Spurs doesn't mind selling to anyone who can pay; doesn't matter if you're in the league or competing with them. They believe they can use the money they get to buy players to make up for it. The bad thing with dealing with them is that Levy has a fantastic record at extracting great prices for his club's premier players. For that reason alone, I'm not hopeful nor enthused by the prospects, even though I rate Vertonghen. A non-starter for us really.

Probably better value elsewhere.

Good player but needs to show some loyalty. Heaven forbid we didn't get in the champions league would he want to move on again?

On a side note, how sweet is it, now that we are heading back towards the champions league, for those who have remained loyal to us, Gerrard, Suarez, Agger, Skrtel and Johnson to name a few!
