Bit of a shock that, I really thought Rodgers was the man for us.
Well, better they get Van Gaal than Ancelotti (if he's sacked after missing out on the CL title).
So with Van Gaal keeping Giggs it really must be a case of keeping your enemies closer. He doesn't want Giggs leading another managerial revolt it would seem.
Persie will be the real assistant.
Would be a bit funny if Holland flame out of the world cup spectacularly and Van Gaal catches a lot of the blame. Would be a good way to start his time at Man Yoo.
It's a risky appointment because the above is a definite possibility with van Gaal, particularly the "p!$$ing everybody off" bit.
Wonder how much cash he'll actually get, especially when you consider the level of wages they'll have to offer because of not being in the CL.
He does seem to be bringing a lot of players based in the Dutch League and has Spain and Chile in his group.
It is a bit obsessive of us to be hoping he fails at the WC now because he's the new United manager?
It's not too far fetched either, it doesn't take much to set the Dutch lads against each other usually

It could well happen as they have probably their weakest squad ever.
It might be better if they stay in it for a while though.

I wonder how this giggs being AM will work, I don't think it's that good an idea, he'd have been better off with Kluivert. Giggs has no experience as AM, doesn't know how Van Gaal works, and is unlikely to be able to motivate or enforce ginsoaks old methods as we saw in the few games he was in charge. The only benefit I see him being able to offer Van Gaal is possibly telling him the areas they need to strengthen.

He'll need enough to build a back four at least, they're 3 men down there already. I think they have to give him a decent amount and that's always a gamble with any manager. Fingers crossed for him signing the Dutch Andy Carroll, whoever he may be.

giggs is to keep players and especially fans onside .
interesting to see how this goes , i wouldn't be completely sold on the idea if i was a united fan .

Van Gaal will not listen to Giggs about anything at all. That is purely for PR. The man fell out with Johan Cruijff at Ajax. He has no respect for big names. He listens to nobody and he is always right.
He will probably bring in some Dutch players for sure. Luckily most of their defenders are shite at the moment which is where he definitely needs to strenghten.
I would be very surprised if he does not go for Strootman. I reckon he would be pretty good for them as well.

I'm okay with them being 6th.
They're completely different players. And Strootman is currently out for 4 months with a bad ACL injury.
It's a bad injury to have, and if the Scum want to pay top dollar despite that, they're welcome to him.
