Sounds like he won't be picking a reserve side for this one:

Hodgson: “It’s on my mind to play Torres, Raul Meireles and Dirk Kuyt on Thursday. I think they’re knitting together well.'

So is it confirmed that Hodgson has decided Raul Merieles should play the AM role ahead of Gerrard?

I would field close to a full strenght line up, because;

a) the team hasn't settled at all, and need to play games, together

b) a lot of our players need match fitness (Kuyt/Torres/Meireles etc)

c) after the Blackpool game there isn't a league game for 14 days

Meireles shouldn't be playing in a more advanced position to Gerrard. Ever.

Against the better opponents away from home:

............................DM.............................
..........RAUL....................GERRARD.........

At home:

.............RAUL................GERRARD..........
.......................COLE..............................

I have bashing Jessica Alba from behind on my mind, It don't mean its going happen. 🙂

I wouldn't mind seeing.

---------------Pepe-------------------
Kelly---Carra-----Agger---Fabio(if fit)
---------------------------------------
Glen---Stevie---Raul-------Cole
-------------------------------------
--------Dirk---------Torres--------

Wouldn't mind that line-up to much although I'm not convinced Johnson will be utilized further up field we just need to be more adventureous and attacking-minded overall to play to his strength and many other players strengths actually.

We are not Fulham.

NB I thought Skrtel was good against Sunderland and as Agger most definitely has got to deputize once again due to LB-injuries he'll probably feature as well.

Ya, that is clear to everyone bar Roy Hodgson it seems.

There is some sensible argument to be had for playing both of them in a flat three or a flat two midfield, but sticking Gerrard and an average footballer as DM and pushing Meireles up as an AM does not make any sense at all.

I'd definitely like to see Kelly at RB, and it'd also be good to give Pacheco another chance. Other than that, assuming no Pucas in midfield, I don't really care.

d) The team need confidence, another defeat could tip everyone* over the edge.

I wanted us out the Europa Cup because I thought it would damage our league performances, but they can't get any worse, so I'm going to get into it.

Dunno who we should play, though.

They're all fucking shit at the moment.

Utrecht are an excellent home team, and have won all 7 matches, including a 4-0 win over Celtic.

This won't be easy, so I'd field our strongest team anyhoo.

Yes, safety first. Play your strongest team, get some team spirit going; we need results.
