Count raised the point that there is a poll on RedCafe where 75% of fans would rather see Utd lose the FA Cup if it meant we would lose the CL final.

If the roles were reserved what would you prefer?

Where is that fool who preferred being in the FA Cup to playing City in the CL quarter final.... Who was it...

I have zero interest in who wins what apart from what we win.

Id rather United won fuck all but never ever at the expense of what we win.

Who the fuck would not want to win the FA cup.

Its been 12 fucking years. Almost a quarter of my life

You aren't over 48??

I agree although it seems most would prefer not win something to prevent them winning.
Madness

I see that. Fair enough. Thats why in a roomful of people or in a big event im sat outside of it all.
People make my skin crawl

Don't know. I realise the rational view is to want to win something and not give a fuck about what your rivals are doing, but it's not as simple as that. Rivalry plays a massive part of football, and we do keep tallies of the big trophies, league titles and CL wins, not league and FA cups wins. There is a reason Robbie Fowler held up his hand to Utd fans indicate 5 times while he was playing for Manchester fucking City. Torres the same at Old Trafford when he is neither a Liverpool fan, nor did he play a part in any of the victories. It's the big trophies that ultimately count and it's galling to see Utd win either of them. I care much less about them winning the FA Cup.

If pushed I would probably side on us winning the FA cup, as when it comes to the day, I'd be gutted to see us lose. It's only afterwards - and on reflection - when I see Utd winning the their fourth European Cup that their result would sink in. But, for me anyway, it's not hugely clear cut.

I'd always choose us winning. Yes i'd be pissed that they won the CL, but fuck it its not going to dampen my mood from us winning. Its a no brainer for me.

Given the fact that FA Cup is played before the CL final it is good to know that we hold their faith... So if we loose they loose, and if we win they win. We will have a lot of New fans for that FA cup final.

I think 100% of our fans would rather win a trophy. But it's the context offered which puts this up for debate.
I don't get it, even in context.

If were nowhere near the final of the CL, I'd rather united not win it. But at the expense of us?

Nah mate.

Always Liverpool, always a trophy , fuck everyone else

Fair enough. I get that view, for sure.

I know opinions are opinions but I am incredulous that a fan would pass up the opportunity to win a trophy just to deny a rival winning one

In my mind you think that you're not a Liverpool fan, you're a not united fan

Yeah, I think it's stature of the trophy that causes the debate.

i.e., would you give up the chance of winning the Community Shield if it meant Manchester Utd lost a CL final? Or would you still rather both clubs won?

I ultimately support Liverpool and want them to win trophies.
Hoping your main rival loses is a just an exercise in consolation.
Community shield all the way

No I'd give up the community shield, because being in it would mean we had won the FA Cup or the League or the double the season before. Also it's not a trophy.

It's essentially about the cost benefit analysis between the joy our fans get weighted against the suffering of their fans. The sum of joy of all our fans normalised to an average percentage would be 15%. Their pain on the other hand would be upwards of 80%. So it's a no brainer, the world will be a in a better place if we both lost, and it would be manifestly immoral if not evil should we put our own selfish desire for joy above the needs of the world.
