Usain Bolt

He was racing the clock, he wanted to beat the world record, he could if he wanted to have crawled over the line he was that quick but he put in the effort and beat Johnsons record.

Amazing watching the guy run, and yeah I hope he is clean also

If his handlers had a clue they'd let him race for another year, then refocus him 100% on learning to catch a football. With decent hands and a bit of toughness, the man could dwarf his earnings and his legacy playing as a receiver in the NFL. Do it, Bolt.

I can just imagine Peyton Manning taking the snap, two steps back and then hucking down the field while Bolt leaves his man and the safeties in his wake and reaches his tall-A 6'5" frame up to grab a touchdown. Forget Michael Vick. This kid could turn the NFL on its head.

On the other hand, doing that, would lead the rest of the World to never give a fuck about him ever again.

Much as being 'world' champion in something else may have its appeal, I reckon Usain will do alright for himself without having to add catching a funny shaped ball to his repertoire.

The fact that they're not allowed to knock you to the floor when you're running the best part of 40kph is also a fairly convincing reason to stick with sprinting. Lets face it, the man is set for life.

TV was saying he's got an 8' stride, 2 more than the average sprinter.

Chicken nuggets and yams, not a bad diet ay ross?

Other than the fact that he would still be the world's fastest human by some margin. Other than that tiny fact, you're probably right.

Then there's the notion that he could be successful at applying his superhuman speed in other endeavors, which would in all likelihood raise, not diminish, his profile. And the value of his investment portfolio.

Set for life? For running 2 races in a sport no one cares about except 1 every 4 years? Do you know what Michael Johnson has been doing with himself since his otherworldly Olympics in Atlanta? Yeah, me neither.

If he wants to be financially set, he's got to translate his speed and olympic success into something that actually makes money. Since he seems to be kind of cocky and arrogant, not sure the sponsorships will pour in. They might though. But how long before some other stud comes along and takes the spotlight?

I couldn't really care less either way, but it is exciting to think about the picture of him making cornerbacks look like they're doing the crabwalk.

Have any other sprinters switched to NFL? Can't think of any.

I think if a country like Germany, China or USA were dominating the sprint medals the way Jamaica are there would be some serious questions raised.

And I didn't even know that Jamaica doesn't have an anti-doping programme

He's been tested 15 times alone this year though Ross.

If he was on something he'd be caught.

Real shame for the lads who got dq in 2nd and third in the 200m.

It's a shame but when the only real rule in the 200m is 'Don't step out of you lane' I find it quite hard to believe how they could be so careless in a final. There are big white lines on the track FFS.

I agree, but watching them do their lap of celebration only to realise 1st 2nd place and then 2 hours later 3rd place were gone was awful.

The new silver and bronze have even said they dont want the medals.

Dropping the baton is worse tho; the rain must have been a factor.

I can't quite believe how the Brits manage to fuck it up so frequently. Again, it's a fairly simple premise. You've got about a 20m zone for one person to pass a shiny piece of metal to another. It's really not that complicated.

Yeah, because drug-testing in Athletics is fool-proof.

I find it a little bit suspicious that 3 of the 6 highest placed 100m sprinters at the Olympics come from a country smaller than Belgium.

Admittedly, it is a bit suspicious. Although I did read somewhere that Jamaica contains the highest percentage of individuals with fast twitch muscle fibres in the world. Which would certainly be synonymous with producing elite sprinters.

In all honesty, I think we're seeing the progression of the sport. As Michael Johnson said, it had always been assumed that tall athletes were two uncoordinated to compete at the highest level. Usain has bucked the trend. We may just be seeing a new breed of giant sprinters about to emerge......

It's no coincidence that they're black, obviously. Fast twitch muscle fibres proportionally are more prominent in black people. But equally, there are plenty of other countries with predominantly black populations so that's a bit of a generalization.

Willie Gault won a Super Bowl with the Bears in 1985 and had quite a successful individual career.
