Unfulfilled Potential

I dunno, Spit certainly more than exceeded his promise of cuntishness.

By that I mean I just knew from watching him at the World Cup in 2002 that he'd be problematic (to put it mildly).

Spanish Gerard, from Valencia, then went to Barcelona. Broke through at the same as our stevie G and thought at the time wow, this guys is going to be some player.

Oh I remember him

Mendieta, probably could have done a lot more in the game if he hadn't went to Lazio.

Juninho - he could've achieved massive amounts if he sacked off Lyon.

Gazza - should have cemented his name in the VERY top tier of football, instead went loony.

Shearer? - His loyalty stunted his success and potentially his quality?

Riquelme?

Ronaldinho? his his peak and was the worlds best for a while but has since slumped big time, should still be at the top. Diet, attitude and lifestyle have dictated otherwise.

Owen - Should have won England a cup by now, should have won liverpool a league title - should never have left - bad career decisions and injuries have put an end to him, more or less.

think with ronnie its hard to justifiably say he never achieved his potential. world player of the year on a few occasions and won nearly everythin going. yes he could have made his best last longer but i think its hard to say he never achieved his best

Considering what an amazing player he was I would say Robbie Fowler. Easily one of the best finishers in English football, and frighteningly good when he was young, but it pretty much faded away when he was still only in his mid to late 20s.

Not enough trophies, too many injuries, nothing really for England

Juninho? He won about six league titles with Lyon, scored loads of beautiful goals, and played in the CL every season. How is that unfulfilled potential? Yes, he MIGHT have achieved more elsewhere, but just look at Mendieta for an example of what else might have happened.

Saviola, Riquelme, Simao, Quaresma... all arrived at Barca as young players only to leave and never quite fulfil their promise. Less so with Simao though.

Reyes looked like he could go on to be a star early on, but seems to have settled into being just a 'good' player at a decent club. Perhaps made some bad career choices in hindsight.

There are some players like Ronaldo, Van Basten, Ronaldinho that you would've liked to see more of perhaps... shame injuries and off the field problems meant they didn't scale even greater heights.

Im not nooooot buying that Bunnyman, he had great success in France..

In technical terms he's in the best 10 players I've ever seen, extraordinary talent. I'm guessing he was happy at Lyon so it's a non-starter but i believe he'd have torn up the rest of Europe.

See, I'm not so sure he would. A very skilful player, and as Sunny said, one of the best set-piece takers in the world, but he was very unathletic and his less-than-stunning international career suggests he was some way behind the likes of Kaka and Ronaldinho.

Matt Le Tiss?
Could have played for a top team if he left Southampton
[/quote]

Certainly, but probably not for very long. He knew he wouldn't be happy elsewhere and therefore IMO made the right decision.

Stan Collymore. All the tools but the mind blew a fuse.

Emile Heskey. Good build and strength, terrible lack of courage and steel.

Djibril Cisse. Pace, power and strength but not the humility and brain to use them.

Kriztian Nemeth. Injuries have probably done his career in even before he's properly started.

MARK BOSNICH.

What a waste of talent ... one hell of a freak shot stopper ... was right up there with the best during his good days.

But that move back to United killed him as it was not a signing Ferguson wanted.

Seeing him at his best was no less than seeing a Buffon/Casillas etc at their best.

Cocaine is helluva drug.

Oh and how can we have not mention ALVARO RECOBA.

One of the most skilful players I have ever seen, but was contempt with sitting on the bench for Inter whilst being the highest paid player in the world at the time.

If only his mentality matched his ability, we'd have witnessed something incredibly special.
