UFC

I think I am gonna give up on this one mate. The videos show very clearly that he was countering, as did his leben fight and his last few fights. you keep avoiding this for some reason so I'll bow out of this debate mate.

I'm going to something called ProKumite next month, is it going to be shit?

[/quote]

Lol Is Van Damme headlining the event?

I think it's sort of similar rules to K1 that you get on eurosport. There's a million different 'MMA' events out there where 'fighters' turn up and have a good scrap. Some are good and some are just full of thugs/doormen/fatboys that are badly trained and fight badly.

It'll be good for a laugh if nothing else.

I've found a few of these events a bit moody if oyu know what I mean though? I've gone to some where there's been a prick of a doorman 'fighting' and the rest of his steriod pumped mates are in the crowd getting wasted and looking for the off, so you've spent the whole night trying to keep your eyes on the action and your head down incase a bottle comes your way.

I think kumite is just old traditional terminology for a bit of combat in japanese martial arts, bro. As hc said, watch yourself with the unruly crowds. Nutters, some of em.

No solution to Machida. Had absolutely no clue how to get inside.

Noooooo! Nice one Farky! It's not shown here until tonight. Ah well, I fully expected him to beat Evans anyway.

It's well worth watching.

Machida is an excellent, skilled, figher. It's nice to see some of the 'old skool' tools do well in the sport again. The guy is black in JJ and Karate 🙂 Even on Saturday nite he looked like a pro boxer.
He has now put him self right in there with Fedor, GSP and Silva for P4P best fighter in the world. He's never lost a round :s

Now if only someone can knock Brock fucking Lesnar out for me. Or I'll take an arm/leg break.

No worries, mate. I've got it recorded and will watch it as soon as I get some time.

I know his background is Karate, Mors, but from what i've seen of him, it doesn't appear to be traditional orthodox Karate. He seems to have a very unique style. Would you say he uses many traditional Karate blocks/strikes etc?

That was a great fight from him.

His style's fantastic, you just cant get close enough to do any damage cos of his stance & ability to throw long kicks without making himself vulnerable to attacks when doing it. They dont look particularly powerful but they did seem to cause some trouble & completely disrupt his rhythm.

Missed the fight. If anyone has any links to it online that would be very appreciated. From what I've heard about it, Machida has definitely moved up into that elite echelon.

He's a very tricky fighter, but it's yet to be seen if he can mix it with the best. Evans is nothing special, well not in my opinion anyway. I think Machida is a very talented fighter, but I have a feeling that much of his advantage comes from his very awkward unorthodox counter attacking style (yes, Mors, I think he counter attacks 😉 ). It may only be a matter of time before people 'suss him out'. He doesn't appear to have knockout power or an amazing ground game but just seems very difficult to successfully attack.

Agree with that. He only need meet someone who can attack as quickly & a bit more viciously & he'll be on the end of a hiding.

I think he could be overpowered as well, however he is deceptively strong and can take a punch.

Finally got around to seeing the whole card and I have to say it really was shite. Hughes and serra were both average. Can't even remember much else except for drew and his knockout power. Average technique but serious power and aggression.

As for evans, I'm glad he got beat as I feel that he was never a great fighter anyway. machida made a chump out of him. He hardly uses traditional karate techniques but you can see some of his karate background in the way he fights. His speed and footwork/body movement make him incredibly elusive but he also seems to love to lean back to avoid strikes and then use this to spring forward and counter with great speed. He seems accurate but I think evans' chin was as much to blame for his knockout as machida's punching power. I think he'll always be a top contender but I can't see him dominating like Silva or gsp. if someone really pushes on to him, someone with a real threat with their punching power and take down skills, I think machida may struggle.

Foureyes and Jon, I think you may underestimate Machida. He looks so far to be a very talented fighter and his style will put a cat amongst the pigeons with the best of the best.

Brock Lesnar... I really hope he doesn't dominate for any length of time, he's fucking boring to watch. It's artless, it's ugly, its shit, and it's probably hgh/steroids.

Meh, probably just playing it up. Certainly sells tickets.

Lesnar is making a mockery of the whole sport. It's showing that in the HW division, as long as you have massive muscles and zero skill - you ca be world champion. It'll be inspiring doormen the world over.

Thank feck for the LHW's!

Zero skill? C'mon, besides the fact that's he's a freak of nature (for someone so big to be so quick and agile), he's actually a world class wrestler.. you can at least give him that.

That's more like it Silva you dopey fucker! Why you hadn't been doing that the last few fights I don't know.
Excellent.

Anderson Silva is a legend. What he did last night was reminiscent of Ali or Roy Jones in their heyday. Made a good fighter look like a bum. That knockout last night was like a jab thrown with contempt. Brilliant performance.

My arse.

Ali in his heyday was fighting levels of competition that the UFC can't currently even dream of. There's dominant fighters in each weight class which are significantly ahead of the rest, and its still a young sport with nowhere near the training pedigree that boxing had.

Silva is a fantastic fighter, but he's clearing through his weight class and others because the competition isn't there. Griffin was made to look like a bum because he fought like one, stupid aggression against a better fighter. I thought Griffin had put those days behind him, and perhaps it is that he was hurt early (dislocated jaw apparently), but he fought to Silva's counter striking strengths.

MMA still has a long way to go before its dominant fighters can be seen as battle tested as an Ali. I really enjoy the UFC, but look at those gifs above, telegraphed brawler punches.

IMO Anderson is the best P4P fighter in the world.
I never thought Griffin had a chance.
And I've never seen a top ranked fighter get so OWNED.

That's my point. The UFC is still in its infancy. If it gets to the level of development that Boxing has had in the past, you won't see fighters like Griffin as champions or top ranked. As such its a bit silly to make bold proclamations about Silva.

UFC has only been a draw for a few years. You simply don't generate top quality in that short a period of time.

It's even more so in other divisions as well. Brock Lesnar looks dominant in UFC's heavyweight division, and he's a fantastic wrestler who is otherwise a relatively unskilled brawler with massive brute force. If the UFC develops the way any fan should want it to, it'll require a lot more than that to dominate.

Silva has precious few worthy opponents, yes because he's fantastic, but also due to a lack of depth.

This dominance has happened before in the UFC, and each time there's been a significance step up in overall skill level. UFC currently has a lot of interest on a shallow learning curve, boxing has dying interest at the end of a steep learning curve.

Although I expected Silva to beat Griffin, I thought it would be a decent fight and certainly not so one-sided. Forrest was made to look like a complete chump. It was good to see Silva back on top of his game and he could very well take the belt at 205 sometime in the not-too-distant future (if he and Machida change their minds about fighting each other). Commanding performance and, while I thought his taunting of Griffin during the fight wasn't entirely classy, he looks like the complacency is gone. Well done.

Forrest (gump) utterly utterly fucked up the gameplan. That's if he had one. It was like Dana had told him to get out there and make Anderson look good for a couple of rounds.

Trying to take his legs would have been a start, but he only had a half arsed attempt at that.

Anderson would of still convincing owned Gump if he had turned up and done what he was meant to, but that was just shocking. A verbal tap off his arse from the floor?! Embarassing. No wonder he hot footed it straight out of the arena. Cnut.

On a lighter note, well done done to BJ - looked in good condition and was well worthy of his win. Nice to see him go into some deep water and come out on top.
