Agree but on those 2 players that's 90m(?)

Midfield has been very iffy for klopp

He isn’t the first top manager to buy duds and won’t be the last. Pointing to those two player and screaming “Look we do give you money” is a silly thing to do. He could easily point to Mané, Salah, Robbo, van Dijk and so on and tell people that is why he should be backed.

It has but its currently the area that needs the most amount of work. Gini is going, Milner is all but done, Keita and Ox are simply not available often enough. If you assume that we need 7 or 8 midfielders in the squad, the only ones Id have any faith in for next season are

Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago and Jones. Theres alot of gaps there, particularly given the amount of games Wijnaldum has played. We probably need at least 2 top quality players coming in this summer.

I agree, but it's also not daft to point out that in the midfield he's bought some high profile stinkers.

Honestly I have faith in the scouting, and wish we could utilise it now. But we can't

I dont think any of our purchases are solely down to Klopp... Our set up means all purchases are a collective decision and heavily influenced by statistics.
If there was one, I'd say its Chamberlain.

Remember stating that Klopp does not have control of transfer targets some time ago, and got slated for it... Now everyone sees that it is just that...

Wish FSG would just fuck off and sell to someone willing to invest in the club

Why is Klopp getting flack alone for poor signings?

I've mentioned this a couple times now but Edwards and co had everyone gushing over their efforts and now that there is some criticism to be dished out it's all on the manager somehow.

We've not invested in the team properly since we bought VVD and Allison. Klopp is good but he's not that good. If you think you're going to sustain a title winning side by buying a Minamino once a year then you're deluded.

True that.
Quite a few on here have been pointing out in the last windows that we need to add new quality players continuously, even if we are winning.
Time waits for no man, and players get older. However, the owners have kept the purse strings tight since the summer of 2018.

They'll sell if the right offer comes in. At the moment from what I know they're trying to merge with Redball

I don’t agree with the last sentence. We added Thiago and Jota. Both with ridiculous injuries. Who knows how things would look without those 2 having unnecessary time out.

[article]There is serious interest from Premier League clubs in Derby County's talented youngster Kaide Gordon, DerbyshireLive can confirm.

Reports have said the 16-year-old is being closely monitored by Manchester United and Liverpool, and that the player could leave this month for a seven-figure fee plus add-ons.

Gordon will only leave if the fee is right and Derby are believed to be thinking in multiple millions, it is understood.

Gordon, who is still at school, cannot sign a professional contract until this summer. If a club, or clubs want to come in for him then Derby would be due significant compensation whether he has signed a contract or not because they have developed the player from a young age.

An example of this was liam Delap, the son of former Rams, Southampton and Stoke City player Rory Delap.

Derby received compensation, but the amount of compensation for Gordon is likely to be far greater as he has already played for the first team. Delap did not make a first-team appearance for Derby.

Gordon, an attacking midfielder, made his senior debut as a substitute in the 4-0 victory over Birmingham City on December 29. In doing so, he became the fourth youngest player inthe club's history.

He was named academy player of the year last season and is a current England under-16 international.

News of firm interest in the Gordon comes as CEO Stephen Pearce responded to fears the club would have to sell its young talent as concerns grow about the short-term cash flow at the club.

Players are yet to be paid the remainder of their wages for December as they await a takeover deal to go through.

In an interview with BBC Radio Derby, Pearce said: "Not necessarily to keep going, but as a Championship club and as with our business model we have to trade.

"That is what you have to do in this market, but what we want to make sure is that whenever we trade it makes sense for us financially and it is in our plan, and that we are using it not to make a dent in the squad for the worse but we are doing it for reasons that were in our transfer strategy.

"If the right deals come along and for the right players that we plan to do that for, then we would trade but we would obviously make sure and try not to impact on the pitch and on the playing squad.

"It is a fact of life, Covid or no Covid, that as a club we have to generate assets to sell and that is our business plan on a normal daily basis."[/article]

Isn't part of the transfer committee's job to find bargains and provide suggestions to solutions? Why have we left it this late?

If a bot can see the problem surely so can the board, waiting for injuries to comeback is just as ludicrous as Trump supporters thinking Hillary Clinton ran Pedo ring from the basement of Pizzaria

But everything is considered for the mid to long term, so they'll look at investing in tried and tested talents that will be expected to be first team regulars for several years, or in the best young prospects. That's fine so long as there's room for the occasional reaction to urgent needs. Every policy needs some flexibility.

I might be wrong, but my understanding is that there's a separate 'pot' of money for young players like this Derby kid, and that pot is largely the responsibility of Inglethorpe and the transfer committee (it's Inglethorpe's call because the argument is: 'these kids might not even mature in time to play for any particular first team manager, so the academy director needs to concentrate on these decisions'). So this money isn't being 'diverted' from any potential CB funds, for example.
