Transfer rumours

I didn't realize Thauvin's stats after his shit stint at Newcastle were that impressive. 37 in 67 for Marseille

They signed Ayoze Perez too, admittedly for silly money but he was alright in that terrible Newcastle team and he'll surely improve with better players around him. I reckon they'll do very well if they can keep Maddison and possibly even Maguire

I think they’re spending the Maguire money already

Liverpool are being heavily linked once again to Real Betis left back Junior Firpo but the bookies still have the Reds as fifth in the transfer odds.

The search to bring a new left back to Liverpool Football Club could be nearing a close as reports in Spain say the Reds are close to sealing a transfer for Real Betis left Junior Firpo in the coming weeks.
Muchodeporte have multiple reports of interest from Jurgen Klopp’s men to bring the Dominican defender to Anfield to back up and compete with Andrew Robertson at the left back position.
Firpo has been the only left back strongly linked to the club after the departure of Alberto Moreno last month on a free transfer. The squad is looking thin at the position with Robertson the only specialist at the position.

Not transfer info exactly (or even slightly) but not worth a new thread. Keeper situation :

Caoimhin Kelleher has had surgery on his wrist, while both Mignolet and Kamil Grabara are still on holiday, Loris Karius is on loan and Alisson will embark on a three-week break after the Copa America final.

This has led Klopp to draft in 17-year-old stopper Vitezslav Jaros, who was part of training on Sunday having been called up from the academy ranks.
Jaros was first choice for the under-18s and under-19s last season, making 28 appearances in all competitions and keeping 10 clean sheets, showcasing his strong potential.

The Czech made his first appearance in first-team training back in January, and has joined the squad on a number of occasions since.
While Mignolet should be back to take on Tranmere, it is likely Jaros will be considered for that friendly, while Kai McKenzie-Lyle and Dan Atherton are also backup options.

Alisson Becker this season:

• UCL Winner
• Copa America Winner
• PL Golden Glove
• UCL Golden Glove
• Copa America Golden Glove
• 39 clean sheets for LFC and Brazil
• 8 saves in the UCL final

Best goalkeeper in the world.

Leicester are making moves...I mean if Thauvin finally works out in the prem and Tielemans continues in the right trajectory, they might just challenge Man U for Europa League places.
What are the odds on them taking a top 4 place?

I think they actually have a decent chance.

I also think Wolves stand a chance of getting into those Europa league places.

I've doubted them before, but the prem is too strong this time around. Also their squad isnt big enough and a lot things have to work out in their favour for them to grab a top 4 place

Heh. I checked, 25/1.

I honestly think they could do it.

Us & citeh you'd fully expect to be top two. Spurs don't seem to be strengthening though, & are by no means guaranteed to repeat this season, Utd are a joke & will struggle at times, Arsenal could struggle to get above Europa League, & Chelsea are almost unknown with Lampard at the helm & no opportunity to buy players forcing them to look at younger ex loanees.

Leicester taking the final fourth place (that's assuming spurs do get third, which as I say, I don't think is nailed on) from Chelsea, Utd or Arsenal isn't that unlikely imo.

Looks like they, typically for Rodgers, are overloading on attacking players. If they end up selling Maguire to finance buying Ayoze Perez, Tielemans and Thauvin, they could become rather soft at the back and won't get anywhere near top 4 despite their awesome collection of attacking talent.

Yeah when you put it like that sure. At the same time you're basing it on things working out well for Leicester.
Spurs have strengthened, they just signed Ndombele.
Will they be able to keep Madison and Whatshisname(the defender)?
Don't sleep on Wolves either.

We've seen this so many seasons before. Only once in recent memory (and that means very recent for me to remember it !), when the PL top dogs were all in transition, did any club (LCFC winning it of course) get near the top four.

LFC, MCFC, Spurs all settled. United spending big to strengthen a decent squad will finish 4th. LCFC could battle Arsenal for 6th but again, just buying a lot of decent but not exceptional players doesn't guarantee a good season as history tells us. And they will sell Maguire (he's crap anyway - at least one major cockup in every other game to offset his good games). Chelsea likely 5th & Arsenal, LCFC, Everton and Wolves to battle it out for the remaining EL slot.

Spot on...and despite having all that talent they do not have a version of Suarez in prime, or Sturridge in prime.

Apparently we're after Sardar Azmoun again...

I've been a big fan of his for a few years now.

However, I think we missed a great opportunity to sign him - he just signed for Zenit and I think the fee was only 10-15m

Smart business by Zenit - I'm sure they'll easily end up selling him for at least double that.

Why is there scorn for other clubs buying Southampton Players? We got Mane, VVD, Lalanna, (who else?) from them.... just saying

Never heard of him.
Linked with us back in 2016.

In 12 league games for Zenit, he netted nine times as they won the Russian top division. That form has seemingly done enough to re-ignite interest on these shores, but this time from European champions Liverpool.

According to Soviet Sport , Anfield scouts were in attendance as Zenit lost 3-2 in the Russian Super Cup to Lokomotiv Moscow, with Azmoun netting twice.

He still has three years left on the deal he signed with Zenit back in February.

Goals at 2:36, 3:23

Dated 30 May 2019
[article]Sardar Azmoun had a phenomenal half season. The 24-year-old scored goal after goal after goal after joining Zenit St. Petersburg from Rubin Kazan in the winter transfer window.

It was a fascinating turn of event to watch Sardar Azmoun develop. The Iranian striker, after all, was somewhat frustrated at the end of last season. A lacklustre season at Rubin Kazan and a World Cup to forget was followed by a brief retirement from the national team.

After failing to score during any of Iran’s World Cup games he was sent obscene messages and mocked for his perceived lack of impact. Azmoun said his mother had been recovering from a serious illness, but the insults caused it to flare up again. Between football and his mother, he wrote on Instagram that “I chose my mother”.

Thankfully, for Iran Sardar Azmoun quickly made up his mind. Quicker than a turn of events at NJ Games Azmoun returned to the Iran national team for the 2019 Asia Cup. There he scored four goals in five games, and all of a sudden became a hot commodity on the international transfer market.

Targeted by clubs from all over Europe and even Major League Soccer Sardar Azmoun had a choice to make. After all, his club career had stalled, and he had scored just four goals in 13 games for his club Rubin Kazan. On the other hand, Rubin Kazan were managed by his long-term mentor Kuban Berdyev.

The bond between the two, however, was strong enough for Sardar Azmoun to follow his coach first from Rubin to FC Rostov and then back to Rubin, even though he had previously fallen out with the Tartarstan based club.

What may have forced Azmoun’s hand, in the end, was the need for Rubin to sell. The club had been banned from UEFA competitions after failing to meet Financial Fair Play regulations earlier this year.

A move then to improve his personal fortunes? But where to? A move to MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps was quickly dismissed as impossible by all sides and RSC Anderlecht was not quite conceived as the right move either.

Instead, Sardar Azmoun opted to stay in Russia and signed for Zenit St. Petersburg. It would quickly turn out to be a match in heaven between the Iranian striker and Russia’s biggest club.

Zenit, after all, were in dire need for another striker after Aleksandr Kokorin was arrested and eventually charged with hooliganism in the fall — the former Russian national team striker continues to be in jail.

With Rubin in financial trouble, Zenit eventually signed the 24-year-old striker for €12 million. It was an investment the Gazprom sponsored club would not regret. In 12 Russian Premier Liga games for Zenit Sardar Azmoun would score nine goals and two assists, as well as three goals in four Europa League games, and compliment a forward line that was in dire need for fresh legs.

After all, striker Artem Dzyuba had played at the World Cup and then returned early to help Zenit qualify for the Europa League group stage. Dzyuba was seemingly struggling by the time the winter break came around and also needed a partner in crime.

Sardar Azmoun would become that player. Not only did the Iranian forward score plenty of goals and was the second-best scorer in the RPL behind Fedor Chalov and the most successful striker during the second half of the season.

How, did Azmoun, do it? Azmoun is exceptionally effective, and among Russia’s top scorers needed the least amount of shots to score his goals (74). In comparison, Fedor Chalov (90) and Viktor Claesson (80) have needed more shots this season. Furthermore, Sardar Azmoun also needed fewer touches (134) than Chalov (170), Claesson (139) and even teammate Dzyuba (141).

The Iranian is an extremely effective player. The sort of player to stay in Russia long-term? Without a doubt, Sardar Azmoun will have caught the attention of other clubs and will undoubtedly be a hot property on the transfer market this summer.[/article]

OK, what's going on?
We entered this transfer window...
...needing a left back, we haven't bought anyone.
...needing a backup wing forward, nope nothing
...with at least three sellable assests (Clyne, Lallana, Lovren, Origi etc), we haven't sold anyone
...possibly needing a striker(unless Origi signs)

Not saying sell Origi, but if he doesn't sign, whats the point? And are we really keeping Lovren around for Salah?
Clyne's contract is up next season, so is Lallana's and Origi's.

We usually move quick in the transfer window since Klopp took over.
Nothing has happened yet, means nothing will probably happen.

I wouldn't be that surprised if we didn't sign anyone. I'd be disappointed though.
