Transfer Deadline Thread *part two*

This is a Fucking disaster again.
Apparently we have been scouring Europe all week yet still can't find a striker in the £10m bracket or even on loan who is better than Kuyt (makeshift striker), Babel (never done it), Ngog (YTS striker).
We are a fucking joke. Why go on about the need to buy a striker all week when as it now appears we never had anything solid lined up. He's made himself look foolish.
Smart managers say we are not buying anybody, then on the last day they get a big name in. We do the bloody opposite. Talk all week about the need to buy a striker then nothing.

God help us now if Torres gets injured.

I have a question.

Lucas vs that fat tubby Huddleston?

What is the verdict? Who is better?
Thats a fucking dumb question KJ.
In that one is a decent player and the other is Lucas?

Something about Huddleston reminds me of Ray Kennedy (when he was playing obv)

regards
I really like Huddlestone.
I find him very frustrating to watch. Talented player but too much of a "gentle giant", without the edge to his play that's needed in the Prem. He's the kind of player I'd be interested in signing if I already had a Chelsea/Citeh-type squad, but not otherwise.

Has it even been confirmed that we had 10m to spend?

Smart managers don't spend 18 million fucking pounds on an injured midfielder with no idea how fit him into the team and 17m on a right back when we had a glaring shortage up front. Fuck off.

Yes, because Managers come out and reveal to everybody how much they have to spend, right?
We enquired about Toivonen and Cole with their valuations being £9-12m, does that give you a clue?
And what the fuck has your last comment got to do with anything TODAY?

Heh, there is no point getting angry about it now man. Chill.

Save yourself for match day when things will get really frustrating.

We did indeed enquire and reportedly offered 7m for Cole but were ultimately were not able to land any of them. Does that give you a clue as to why?

As for my last comment - today is the day that you posted some rather silly comments about Liverpool's manager. Log in again tomorrow and I'll be happy to tell you to fuck off then as well.

I don't even know what Bilko is on about, or what point he's trying to make. It's almost like he's a dull, unfunny weirdo

I'm sure Hicks won't want spending in January so we can spend more next summer... T_T
If Hicks is still around in January we're in massive trouble.

I think we'll buy someone in January out of necessity.
I think if we do it will be to replace Torres , unless we have new owners by then. Not getting a decent second striker in this window is a monumental fuckup imo

if the likes of torres, gerrard and reina had been given reassurances i've seen nothing this transfer window that might back that up. joe cole on a free is our stand out signing and its nowhere near enough.

Yes, I'm sure players were told that the club had hopes of completing the sale before the end of the transfer window too.

Oh well, there's always January.

Plessis: Undisclosed fee to Pana

Liverpool have sold Damien Plessis to Greek outfit Panathinaikos for an undisclosed fee, while Nabil El Zhar has been loaned to PAOK.

Plessis, 22, moves to the Trifylli after failing to break into Roy Hodgson's first-team plans.

The Frenchman arrived at Anfield from Lyon in the summer of 2007 but failed to force his way into the Reds midfield, featuring just eight times and scoring one goal.

Meanwhile, winger El Zhar has joined PAOK Thessaloniki on a season-long loan.

The Morocco international was only a bit-part player under Rafa Benitez, arriving on Merseyside from St Etienne in 2006 but playing only 32 times.

El Zhar, 24, has not featured at all for Hodgson since he took over.

Reserve team midfielder Vincent Weijl has completed a transfer to SD Eibar.

That fucking sucked as far as a big summer was supposed to .... We kept three of our four top class players and failed to strengthen yet again whilst continuing to tread financial water and sell as much or more than we bought. As for the clearing deadwood argument .... It only works if we buy in class and we didn't so .... Get fucked with that ol chestnut.

So now what, 18 months of weakening and more lies and bullshit what to do?

Come on the 'Pool ! I'm up for it no fucking hope but blind hope .... Let's fucking do them bastards and have good time anyway.

Cole and Babel miss out on deadline day moves
Published 23:00 31/08/10 By Alan Nixon

Carlton Cole and Ryan Babel missed out on massive £10 million moves yesterday in a double deadline day farce.

West Ham's England striker Cole was due to join Liverpool in a stunning deal after the Kop finally made an offer that was acceptable to their struggling rivals.

And Dutchman Babel was even flown by helicopter to London to speak to either West Ham about a swap or Tottenham about a £10 million sale.

But Hammers pulled the plug on the Cole sale and Liverpool called off the Babel move to either West Ham or Spurs with an hour to go before the 6pm cut-off point to leave two clubs, three managers and three clubs in despair.

Cole had been put on red alert to move to Anfield while he was with the England camp. But arguments about the fee and meddling by agents held up the transfer.

Boss Roy Hodgson has wanted Cole for some time - as Mirror Sport revealed - and he was willing to let Babel go to finance the move and make space for him in his squad.

Babel was given the all-clear to leave Liverpool at lunchtime when Tottenham made their cash offer for him, but by the time he was airborne he also had the chance to head for West Ham on loan.

The Dutchman weighed up the choice between fighting for a place in the Spurs side - with all of the competition Harry Redknapp has when they are fit - or join the struggling Hammers.

Babel was tempted by the glamour of Spurs and the challenge of the Champions League, but was also interested by the chance to play every week for Avram Grant's team - and put himself in the shop window.

Liverpool's decision to let him go despite his brief scoring appearance in the Europa League qualifier against Trabzonspor made sure that he took off and looked for a new home.

However as Babel landed in London he was told he could not go to either club because Liverpool had failed to push through the deal and he chose to head back by train at the end of a crazy day.

Now Cole knows West Ham were willing to sell him, Babel is also aware that his Liverpool days are numbered - while wheeler-dealer Harry Redknapp missed out too.

If before summer started i was told we would keep Gerrard and Torres AND sign -
Joe Cole
Milan Jovanovic
Christian Poulsen
Paul Konchesky
Danny Wilson
Jonjo Shelvey
AND
Raul Meireles

I'd have bitten yer fucking hand off.

Additionally if Chelsea or Manchester United had in this transfer window signed -
Joe Cole
Milan Jovanovic
Christian Poulsen
AND
Raul Meireles

I would have been ridiculously envious. In particular Cole and Meireles who are very VERY good players on their day.

The worry seems to be that we didnt sign a forward, but as has been alluded to, the problem last year was not nescessarily that we didnt have cover for Torres when injured, but that Rafa didnt trust them (certainly in the cases of Pacheco, Babel and Kuyt).
Roy clearly wanted another striker or there wouldnt have been links to Trez, Tovainen, Cole etc but the fact we didnt get one doesnt fill me with as much dread as it seems to others.
We still have one of the best strikers in the world. And hopefully we have a manager now who will try to counter his absences with a change in philosophy. We can play TWO up front if needs be. We can play Babel up front where he is meant to be played if needs be. We can give the youngsters a chance if needs be. We have options, the concern seems to stem from the fact that Rafa didnt use them very well.
As pointed out earlier, Jovanovic has a better goalscoring record than almost all of the targets we were linked with this summer. So perhaps the plan will be to play him up front if needs be. I just dont think its as dire as it was last year. I really wanted a striker and honestly thought we would get one but we didnt, so we go in with Babel, Jovanovic, Kuyt, Pacheco, Eccleston.......and FERNANDO TORRES. Thats a lot of options. Coupled with them playing with forward thinking players behind them instead of Lucas and Mascherano then perhaps we have plenty.

Realistically we are aiming to get top 4 again this year and i think we have hopefully done enought to do that. A lot depends on the manager of course.

Im looking forward to seeing Cole and Meireles in tandem.

Im excited. We've really done some good business and importantly not crippled us any further in our 'Palsied fiscal state' theres little point moaning and decrying the fact we didnt pay 20m for a new striker if that tips us into recievership. We did some good business and we shaved a mint off the wage bill in the process and we did it all without spending millions.

Maybe we should have not announced the Cole and Meireles signings until today to give everyone a lift.
