So, in a statement from H & G, Rafa will have the money he's been promised. Including sales he's expected to spend 40 mill £.
This in the wake of the loss at Kop Holding.

Thats good news eh? Silva first, then a right back please.

Problem for me is that I dont believe one word H & G say about anything
[/quote]

G&H may have broken their word about not doing a Glazers and the stadium but when it comes to backing Rafa with transfer funds, they have done that.

Here's a snippet from the Guardian:-

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jun/06/liverpool-tom-hicks-george-gillett

Hicks and Gillett have put money in, a significant difference from the Glazers, who have provided nothing for United to invest. The accounts show that £58m was loaned from the Cayman Islands holding company, which is understood to have funded player signings. Significant sums have been made available to Rafael Benítez under the new owners, including the totemic £26.5m arrival of Fernando Torres in July 2007, and during the year covered by these accounts, Benítez signed Andrea Dossena and the £20m Robbie Keane, who returned to Spurs for £12m six months later.

I do have a tiny bit of sympathy for G&H when it comes to the stadium though as I do think that if it wasn't for the credit crunch, building for it would have probably started by now.

I don't think Rafa would've signed his contract without firm guarantees that they'll back him in the transfer market.

so keane was sold back for 12 million. we could have sold him for that at the end of the season and i do feel that he'd have got better and maybe been worth 3 points somewhere.

rafa has money, he clearly went into the window with a plan. he's having to modify it because like parry he's finding the transfer business not as easy as he thought.

he's having to wait over alonso as he doesn't want to be seen as though he's being pushed out and he still has a soft spot for lucas, these factors imo combined towards the barry move to city instead of liverpool. oh and barry getting fed up waiting for us and being swayed by the wages

he met with silva who is now looking likely to go to real so that seems like its gone.

we have a budget but i fear that it'll be wasted like it was last year. who exactly is he going to spend it on?

So what's his budget then? It can't be 40mill in total if we flog Babel, Dross, Vermin, Kids and maybe even Alonso.

I'd have thought they would have told him around 30mill - That's reasonable.

The accounts was for the year ending July 2008 and so I'm guessing we won't know the true details of the Keane transfer until next year.

Stories about Barca coming in for Mascher seems to be popping up now and it does seem likely we need to sell before we can buy, but as you say who can we buy who would make a difference to us?

Silva/Young, Bent, and Johnson would represent a very productive transfer window.

Is it true Johnson has a minimum release clause of £12M or is it just speculation? 'Cos I don't want to get locked into a bidding war and push an already excessive price even higher.

Don't forget they have an outstanding debt on Crouch 😉

That's true, but the takeover of Portsmouth also has to be taken into account. By all reports they're not looking down the sofa for change any more so writing off that debt won't be as appealing to them as previously thought.

that's basically irrelevant. if they have a choice between a £17m fee from chelsea and the cancellation of, say, a £10m debt to us, then they're obviously going to go with the bigger fee, use what they need to pay us back, and pocket the difference.

Can't see us signing anyone of note. Possibly Downing depending on his injury. Johnson, with Arbeloa leaving. And a striker on a free. Savioa, maybe?

Sickening that we're in pretty much the same position as we were under the two chuckle brothers, Moores and Parry, and yet we're having to service a 350 million quid loan with money that could be going towards strengthening the team or on a new stadium.

Hopefully the reported transfer budget of 20m (Without sales) is a tactic by rafa to negotiate.

Given that "cashed" back on keane, i would think that our warchest would be bigger.

I'm not sure the 'Keane money' will still be available. It's probably already been swallowed up by wages and other costs.

yeah, cos that's why we sold keane, to pay the wages.

of course, that's actually not as far-fetched as it should be.

Some people in this thread need to stop being anti G&H morons and stop getting there knickers in a twist. Yes we are better off under G&H's. Do you remember getting signings of the calibre of Torres, Mascherano and Keane beforehand? G&H are hardly the perfect owners, but there hardly the worst.

Yes we have Nando and mash etc, but at what cost? We shall see...

Maybe some of those firm guarantees were based on the assumption that we would get loan restructuring, keni.

Oh please, they would have not brought the club to watch it crash and burn, it is very much there wish to make this club successful and profitable and they will push this club further forward than Moores could.

What is your point? nobody would buy the club to watch it crash and burn, that obviously goes without saying. As does the fact they wish to make the club successful and profitable, but it doesn't mean they will or can. They've hardly done a great job so far. Or do the recent financial reports not worry you at all?

sorry just noticed this was posted in another thread too,

LIVERPOOL have reacted bullishly to claims that they are on the point of financial meltdown by insisting they expect to be able to outspend both Manchester United and Arsenal in the transfer market this summer.

A senior Liverpool source told The Sunday Times last night: “We have more spare cash to spend than any club except Chelsea.â€

The source, who has detailed knowledge of the 2007 takeover at Anfield by the American businessmen Tom Hicks and George Gillett and insight into how they have run the club since, also says:

¤ the transfer budget will be a minimum of £20m plus sales this summer and that manager Rafael Benitez “is free to exceed it†if he can “make a convincing caseâ€

¤ Liverpool are not subject to some of the financial constraints on transfer dealings that limit Manchester United and Arsenal, who are more indebted to outsiders including banks and institutions

¤ Benitez is “an amazing guy who knows he has a healthy transfer budget to augment one of the world’s strongest squadsâ€.

The source also suggested Hicks and Gillett had two regrets over their takeover. First, they reneged on an initial promise not to put some of their buyout debt directly onto Liverpool; and second, they are unable to start work on the new Stanley Park stadium “because the world’s fallen apart financiallyâ€.

They both want to remain at Liverpool, ideally in partnership with a new investor — yet to be found — with deep pockets to help fund the stadium. However, more than £58m channelled into Kop Football Ltd (Liverpool’s UK holding company) from an arm of the Hicks-Gillett operations based in the Cayman Islands is “evidence in cash†of the owners’ commitment. That money is part of £421.6m owed by KFL to all creditors combined at the end of July 2008.

Premier League debt is back in the spotlight after Deloitte’s annual review of football finance showed top-flight clubs owe in total £3.1bn, two-thirds by the “Big Fourâ€. Chelsea owe Roman Abramovich £701m. Manchester United owe banks and hedge funds £649m and other creditors about £50m more. Arsenal owe £416m, spent largely on the Emirates Stadium and on property development at Highbury.

Kop Football Ltd posted losses of £42.6m for the year to July 2008, mainly down to interest payments of £36.5m on loans taken out by Hicks and Gillett to buy Liverpool.

That's great. Tell everyone we have loads of money for transfers. It's not like selling clubs will set their prices to reflect that. Oh no.

Once again, I wish the representatives of the club would just STFU and let our actions speak louder than anything else.
