Totti vs. Zarate

If you don't know, these 2 have been arguing with one another via the media for a while.

Zarate recently said Totti is finished as a player, and so Totti responds with this cracker:

Francesco Totti continued the feud with Mauro Zarate via a sarcastic New Year’s address to the Lazio striker.

The two have been sparring since the Rome derby and trading insults through the Press.

It deteriorated this week when Zarate stated that the Roma captain “is already finished†as a player.

Naturally Totti replied in a sarcastic message on his own personal website.

“Best of wishes to all the sportsmen and great champions of football like Buffon, Del Piero, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Ronaldinho and I apologise if I have left anyone out,†read the statement.

“Speaking of this, seeing as it’s Christmas and we should all be a little nicer, I cannot help but wish the great champion Zarate 240 times a Happy New Year.

“I hope in 2010 to score a few more goals and assists so that I can reach his records as a top scorer and provider.

“I have to be quick, seeing as I am already finished as a player… well, considering the way 2009 went, let’s just say I am nearly finished. Best wishes.â€

The number 240 has special significance for Totti, as it is the tally of goals he has scored in a Roma jersey.

Cracker ? It comes across as very petty. Great player has no need to resort to this.

That's true.

But this has more to it than just an argument between two players .... Roma v Lazio.

Totti did perform remarkably well towards the end of 2009, playing a key part in Roma's revival in the last 2mths + of the yr. That's not taking into consideration his stop start season and injuries over the entire year, plus of cos age.

Zarate's fortune in turn has taken a dive. I would think that if he just mentioned the '240' thingy he's petty but he did mention the names of other 'ageing' players as justification that players can't be written off just cos of their age/declining pace etc. Thus, I'd say its fair play.

I'm not a particularly massive fan of Totti's but, realistically, Zarate isn't even a pimple on his arse.

Zarate is just humping Claudio Lottito's leg by saying things about Totti.
