Yep, agree with that.
I know the reasons people say it and it might sound wonderfully and profoundly "I'm Liverpool me" but really it's just pitiful. Wishing one of our best players, who's given us so much in three years, will be unfit for what could be his greatest ever tournament is pathetic. This is his moment to shine and possibly prove himself the best striker in the world. I hope he takes it with both hands........... and gets beaten in the final. 😉
"Pitiful"?
Why would I give a ffuck about Spain? I only care what Torres does for Liverpool. There's fuck all "profound" about it.
And let's not ignore the fact that a summer of rest would do him the world of good, and that if he does have an amazing WC, is top scorer, and wins the trophy with Spain, the clamour for him to leave would be simply astounding and there'll be EVEN MORE gargantuan bids from Europe's elite coming his way left, right and centre.
So far from being "pitiful" it is actually "sensible"

Yeah, sensible if you're a dispassionate, robotic humanoid - much like Rafa himself in many ways which is ironic given there are few posters I would have thought had less in common with Rafa than you Brendan.
Quite uniquely, it would seem, I don't actually go along with the "chess pieces on a board" or "another brick in the wall" mentality when it comes to Liverpool and it's players. I want Liverpool to win everything it competes in but I certainly have no desire to see the careers, success and dreams of all its players sacrificed to that alter.
My complaint with Owen (though one of my favourite players) was that he elevated the success of England
above that of Liverpool. That was unacceptable and he lost a fair amount of my personal support because of it. I haven't seen this with Torres and, as such, so long as he seems committed to Liverpool Football Club I wish him every personal success available to him.
If he stabs us in the back then may he rot in hell.
