Torres will be off in the summer, which fucking stinks - but we've got to keep hold of Reina.

Give him vice captaincy. Whatever it takes.
fuck it, give him the captaincy.
No thanks.
Haha.

'Whatever it takes'

'Captaincy'

'Er, no thanks'

Losing either of them would be a pain in the arse but if they really want to go then let them.

At least we can pretty confidently say that there would be money to replace them now. With the previous owners that was not as certain.

I don't advocate offering them vice captain, captain, player manager, seat on the board, freedom of the City of Liverpool or anything to make them stay. They are highly paid players, both guaranteed first team places and its up to them whether they want to stay with the club and help us improve or jump ship.

In any case, if they are threatening to go based on this moral stance of 'we were given assurances and the club lied to us', then to take the captaincy in return for keeping quiet and staying would be pretty fucking shallow wouldn't it?

Personally I don't really trust this story anyway so will just have to see what happens.

Ha, well Gerrard as Captain is now set in stone as far as I'm concerned, and especially at the moment because he's the only player playing close to his capabilities every week.

I also think it may appease the Spaniards having one of them as VC - but that's just speculation really. We have to give them something to stay and with Carra now getting on a bit, this may well be the time.

Hyypia graciously made way for Gerrard after all, because he recognised his worth to the club.

That's exactly what Gerrard did, and who's complaining now?

I don't really like it, but if needs must...

Did he? He was made captain in 2003. I have to admit I don't remember if he was moaning at that point.

I believe he did offer to give up the captaincy after the Chelsea saga

How many Spaniards are actually left? Reina, Torres, who else?

Hmmm.

I don't think we need more Spaniards actually. We need more good footballers.

If Torres decides to fuck off then so be it. No need to buy him new mates.

Ha, I was joking about the reason for signing Llorente, but I do really want us to sign him. He can replace Torres for all I care.

I think I've made my stance of Torres very clear.

Unless, we sold Fernando, and asked Llorente to drop the Llorente and have Torres on the back of his shirt and give him the number 9! It would save a lot of people and the shop a lot of money.

Just putting it out there.

I recall one or two whispers in the press about him starting to moan behind the scenes, not so long before GH took the captaincy from Sami and gave it to him. There was some sharp debate on KT about it at the time.

I'm NOT past caring. There's a reason all of our good players want to leave, and while there are other factors, a big one is the fact that we're shit. Thus far their leaving has just made us more shit (imagine that).

If they are convinced to stay, it will likely be good for the team, not just because they improve the team immensely, but because they are convinced that we are going somewhere.

Any replacement for Reina is a step in the wrong direction.

Any replacement for Torres will be a step in the wrong direction too. We have possibly the best striker in the world on our books, and we need to start making chances for him, chances that, 8 out of ten, he will probably convert

There were two Gerrard transfer sagas indeed. Him being made captain came before both of them i think.

One was in summer 2004, the other summer 2005.

Unless there was another one I've totally forgotten about.

The Gerrard to Chelsea rumours were going on through 2003 though, and I'm pretty certain they were one of the reasons why we replaced Hyypia as Captain. This way when Houllier was losing the plot and we were in 'decline' and Gerrard needed reassurances about his future, for the first time.

Might be a bit off, I dunno. It's what I've been believing for years and I'm sticking to it!

Roy Hodgson, the Liverpool manager, has warned Manchester United that Pepe Reina is not for sale.

The Spain goalkeeper was linked with United earlier this week and Arsenal have been mentioned as potential suitors in the past.

Speculation over the future of Reina – and other key players – has arisen because of the recent instability at Anfield and the poor start made by the club to the Premier League season.

But the 28-year-old signed a six-year contract in April and Hodgson has no intention of letting one of his most prized assets leave.

Hodgson told the Liverpool Echo: "It was just one of those stories that seems to occur – it's just disappointing and annoying.

"Pepe is fantastic here, he is a lifeblood of this team.

"We have heard nothing from Manchester United and, more to the point, we don't want to hear anything from Manchester United.

"If [Sir Alex] Ferguson is looking around at the end of the season and he has got lots of money to replace [Edwin] van der Sar, he might very well want Pepe Reina because he is the best around.

"But we do not want to sell him. I would like to think that we are going to become a successful club once again and Pepe is crucial to that."

Both Torres and Reina signed new long term contracts before the summer. Only an idiot would agree to amending a contract afterwards to include a clause like that.

and roy isn't. oh
and Roy would have the authority to start dabbling in all that Dantes 😉

Indeed. Its not as if Roy would be able to give assurances about funding, or new ownership. I doubt he'd remember even if he was told.

And he sure as hell wouldn't be giving assurances that its ok because there is a top manager waiting to replace him!

"I would like to think" we're going to be successful again? Is that really the best he can do FFS?

Actually it is - we've learned that from his other press statements. Hopefully NESV have been listening and drawing conclusions.

I won't believe any media talk until the club issues a statement.

In the event that Torres and Pepe want to leave, then flog them for top dollar. The cavakier mercenary attitude shown by some of the top players is just ridiculous.

Nobody is bigger than Liverpool. We were here before them and will be here long after they're gone!

Yep, that was actually very definite for him. It's a fucking open net to say we won't sell a player to Man U, and he finally took it.

That was my thought too when I read it. The guy just screams low expectations. He needs sacking off asap.

I want him gone too, but there's nothing really shocking about that particular statement.

How much bluster and posturing can he make about being successful when we've been total rubbish this seasion?

He should just shut the hell up though.

Least we are making sure loosing our big name stars wont turn us into a mid table side...Bbc gossip….’Liverpool are rumoured to be lining up a January move for Blackpool's attacking midfielder Charlie Adam’.

Every morning I wake up, the first thing I'd do is switch on my computer and launch BBC's Football Site. While waiting for the page to load, I would always wish with frantic hope that there would be some sort of breaking news about Roy being booted out of the club or that he'd resigned.

I know that it'd be only a matter of time this day will come and my wish to come true. Hopefully it will be sooner than expected.
