Roy was careful to say that we 'don't want to sell' in that interview. Along with the fact that he would 'like to believe' that we'll return to being a top team again. Hardly cast iron assertions, but then I wouldn't expect much different from him really.

He said " no fucking way Alex". Stop trying to dilute every fucking word he says

Wow. I received a tweet from Oliver Kay.

@ @jack.d.rips I wouldn't dismiss a story as "lazy journalism" simply because it doesn't contain quotes. Lazy assumption ...

@ @OliverKayTimes Saw the Daily Mirror article. Not one single quote. Lazy journalism at its best. Shouldnt there be a law against this ?

Reina and Torres strongly linked with Jan moves today. All murmurs point to them being very restless at #LFC. Big challenge for new owners

no CL
unlike to get CL this season
shit manager
club in transition
owners have openly said they'll be no big signings in jan

not saying they will leave but they must be at least 'twitchy'

no CL? ok, Reina was aware and earlier in the year he said he knew this would take time.
unlikely to get to the CL this season - not necessary true, stop bloody being like Dreamy
shit manager - yah he's not very good but he won't be here next year
club in transition - to greatness! they should stick for the ride
no big signings in Jan - who the fuck make BIG signings in Jan!??!

I don't think it's so easy to disregard this giving this isn't the first we've heard of either of them being unhappy.

Both Torres and Reina signed new long term contracts before the summer. Only an idiot would agree to amending a contract afterwards to include a clause like that.

Ask the twat if he can confirm if this is one of the 4% of speculative stories that turns out to be true.

If they want to go then there's not much we can do. Ideally NESV send some pretty persuasive chaps round

I'm hoping NESV are just saying they won't splash big to stop other clubs taking advantage in terms of price tags and that actually there will be a couple of big signings in January.

I can live with Torres leaving, but not Reina.

If we buy Dafour & Affalley and the other rumoured players (forget who - supposedly we are after 4 players for Jan.) then our team will / could transform. As always seems to be the case - that backbone is there. The good news is that Roy must offload too (Lucas / Babel etc.) ? Maybe that will mollify them.

I think the players that we are likely to offload are

Maxi
Kuyt
Kyrgiakos
Poulsen
Jovanovic
Aquilani

They are all on high wages and its mostly (except for Kuyt and Aquilani) because they moved as a free agent or in the last few months of their contract which resulted in us paying very little in the form of transfer fee (although in the case of Poulsen it's still 4 million too many). They are all old, and every transfer window their value takes a beating from now on.

Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina are ready to quit Liverpool in January thanks to secret escape clauses in their contracts.

The Spain internationals made the get-out agreements with their Anfield bosses in the summer when they were persuaded to stay despite the departure of Spanish boss Rafa Benitez.

Now Torres and Reina, key to Roy Hodgson’s attempts to steer the club away from the relegation zone, want out after promises of major team investment went unfulfilled.

Mirror Sport understands the pair will tell the club in December they wish to leave, with Manchester City keen on £50 million Torres and Manchester United and Arsenal pursuing £20m Reina.

The double whammy will devastate Liverpool fans who hoped John W Henry’s purchase of the club would bring the glory days back to Anfield.

Instead, the American has made it clear there will be no major spending in January, and with many players unhappy with the direction the club is taking under Hodgson, Torres and Reina are ready to make a move.

Torres was talked into staying in the summer when a three man delegation flew to Madrid for secret talks with with the striker’s representatives on July 14 - three days after the World Cup Final.

It is understood Torres lawyer Margarita Pilar Garay-Bret and Jose Antonio Martin were present at the meeting.

One member of the delegation remained in Madrid to speak directly with Torres before returning to Liverpool confident the Spaniard would stay.

Torres and Spanish teammate Reina - a powerful voice in the dressing room - were both poised to quit Liverpool at the time with Chelsea having tabled a £50 million bid for Torres while Arsenal had offered £20 million for Reina.

Both were upset at the lack of investment, the club’s failure to secure Champions League status and the grim reality of their Premiership title hopes.

Torres was eventually persuaded to remain at Liverpool after three days of talks - during which the delegation described in detail plans laid out specifically by Christian Purslow, the club’s chief executive who quit last week following the sale of the club.

Torres was told the new owners - that were not identified to him - were in place and ‘days’ away from completing the Liverpool takeover.

It is claimed he was told Roy Hodgson’s appointment was a temporary measure and a big name manager was already lined up - armed with a £100 million transfer kitty offered as a ‘quick fix’ to drag the club back on terms with Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City.

It is understood Liverpool planned to spend £50 million in the summer with a further £50 million available in January for targets no longer chasing Champions League ambitions.

Torres and Reina reluctantly agreed to stay at Anfield - but only on condition they each had an escape clause written into their contracts.

Mirror Sport can reveal the pair are now furious at the subsequent takeover - not directly with new American owner John W Henry or New England Sports Venture - but with the management team they feel misled them over the club’s future.

Hodgson has been told there will be no marquee signings in the January transfer window leaving Torres and Reina feeling they have wasted a season.

Insiders at Anfield fear that without Champions League qualification the club will struggle to make a profit - but crucially then have nothing to offer potential big name signings.

Mirror Sport revealed on Tuesday that Reina has been targeted by Sir Alex Ferguson for a sensational switch to Manchester United - and that now could happen in January.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will resume his quest to sign the keeper and the immediate lure of Champions League football will prove a massive draw for the World Cup winner.

Torres will have his pick of clubs - even though the ‘big’ clubs very rarely make marquee signings in January because most major players are cup tied - thanks to Liverpool’s failure to qualify for this season’s Champions League.

Representatives of Torres and Reina did not respond to attempts to contact them yesterday.

Can we recall Aquilani? I wish we could and then would.
i think we'll want to make sure as possible we get the £13.5m fee for him next summer. tbh, as galling as it is having a £17m midfielder out on loan and even though he's obv. a good player, i've no idea where he'd fit into our team anyway. too much of a wimp to play with meireles in CM, and gerrard's got his natural position behind torres. i think you'd have to play aquilani where gerrard is now and shift gerrard to one of the wings, so it probably wouldn't be worth the bother.

he was pretty much the definition of a misfit signing.

Ugh, I hate these stories about Reina being unhappy. I wish he'd come out and say he was committed, I won't feel comfortable about this until he does.
Reina signed a six year contract in April 2010. I dont see how he could be any more committed.

Upon signing, he said: "It's probably the best news of my life that I'll be here for the next six years. Me and my family are really happy here.

"To play for Liverpool is very special. My kids enjoy it and they have picked up the Scouse accent already. I am really proud of that. In the years ahead they will speak much more Scouse too."

I'm really past caring. I just want us to hold on to our young good players (like Sterling and Shelvey) and the scousers.

I'm starting to come around to the idea of pitching Torres for 50m+ pounds. He is just never healthy enough these days to duplicate his glory days of 07-08. I don't think we will see that Torres flourish in this team again, and we can buy a lot of peope for 50m+...

I didn't dilute anything. Those were quotes from his interview. Roy doesn't speak in absolute terms for fear of raising expectations.

According to Andy Heaton, Purslow has already knocked back that such a clause excist.

So true.

Apart from Reina I expected all the Spaniards to eventually leave anyway when Rafa got the boot. Especially Torres.

Torres will be off in the summer, which fucking stinks - but we've got to keep hold of Reina.

Give him vice captaincy. Whatever it takes.

If NESV aren't going to invest in the club, why did they buy us? We're going nowhere without some investment. Again as said by some hopefully it's just BS to get the pricetag down. Get rid fo Roy, restore the feel good factor, and let's lose this sense of decline..

We need a fresh start, quickly.

Torres is probably off anyway, but Reina's about as likely to leave as Carra.

NESV are certainly going to act, they didnt stump up 300 million to watch us get relegated.
