words like dago, eyetie (however you spell that), paddy, frog, kraut - they're more just politically incorrect than meaningfully vicious, surely? not something you'd probably use in front of that particular nationality, but they'd hardly alter my opinion of a person who used them from time to time.
as for tommy smith, whatever the truth of those quotes - and i believe them, personally - i saw him on john barnes's show on LFC tv a while ago and they seemed to get on fine, so hopefully he's tried to broaden his mind just a bit.
