Ticket Prices

It's a pity 20,000 didn't walk out , we might have gotten the ticket priced reduced realistically rather than just frozen. They reacted as there was so much bad publicity not because they give a shit about fans.
They might not have taken money out of the club yet but we all expect them to when the stand is finished and they sell us on. It will be hundreds of millions profit and all this ticket increase money will just be loose change.

Credit to the owners. They get a lot of shite they dont deserve.
Lets move forward as a club now.

They've still kept all the concessionary tickets. I think it's a positive step by them if I'm being fair. They've reacted in a good way and should take some credit for that.

If they sell us on, they'll make money on the club, but that won't "take money out of the club".

If someone realizes a profit on the sale of a house, its not the same as a reverse mortgage on the house.

How about some credit to SOS too. I know they are not a lot of people on here's cup of tea but that is twice now where they have had a significant impact on our club. (1) to get rid of the cowboys & (2) to slow the lizard's conversion to cowboys. I'm not saying they were the only reason in either case but they have made a significant impact & shown that direct action can have an effect.

I realise that and it's what we expected from the start to be fair.
They weren't and aren't football or Liverpool fans , they have invested in the club to eventually make a profit which is reasonable. It's not totally their fault that so many managers have pissed away the transfer funds they have been given but they must take some responsibility for the footballing infrastructure within the club being behind that of our rivals.
I just don't buy them acting so offended by us calling them greedy (that's the last thing a hedge fund manager would be isn't it) and if they hadn't for the most part ignored the fans groups in the lead up to the ticket announcement then they could have avoided this PR disaster.
That's what they really care about not our wellbeing the patronising twats.

I'm not going to pretend that I can vouch for the veracity of that statement, or its genuine intent about giving a shit for anything other than good business reasons, but that's a very well crafted bit of PR communication.

Almost reminiscent of the very best gaming PR from someone like Valve, Bungie or Blizzard.

I before e, except after c.

But yeah, it's very well written.

I tend to see the best in people until I am proved otherwise and take this at face value mainly because I have always felt they were good owners and relatively decent people. As you say Brendan, regardless of that its a masterful bit of PR, almost as good as the ticket communication debacle was poor.
This is actually massive a probably unprecedented.
This will at least answer the question as to if Ayre is culpable in any way as if he is he will surely be sacked.

Greed is worst mistake a hedge fund can make. You have to be humble and be a slave to what the market is telling you. So they would come across as useless and clueless investors if they decided to stand by their greed.

Thanks I'll admit my ignorance to high finance. The most I invest in is a chippy tea on a Friday.
I'd be surprised if they aren't in this for the big pay off though.
I already knew I was cynical and now I know I'm stupid as well. All them wasted years......

Still, you would do better to invest your money in Pesam than a hedge fund.

Great news and could have all been avoided if someone at the club actually chatted to the run of the mill football fan. Tickets have increased significantly in recent times and understandably the vast majority of fans are frustrated and are running out of patience. Timing couldn't be worse with the well advertised bumper TV deal on the horizon. Many fans were probably hoping the TV revenue would bring some respite and potentially even lead to a complete revamp of the ticketing structure in the UK.

From a PR perspective we have missed out on a huge opportunity. Clubs could essentially cut the average ticket price by 80% and the TV deal would easily cover any lost revenue. Imagine if FSG announced that they would cut ticket costs by 25%.. We would be the envy of the nation and FSG would be lauded as legends. We've thrown so much money at agents and shite players over the years its embarrassing.

HOWEVER. ..The amount of crap the owners get from some fans is embarrassing. There seems to be some kind of expectation that owners have to throw away their entire fortunes with zero reward.

This is unexpected but good. Although I like to see if FSG will back down again when the fans don't like their next move.

With great power comes great responsibility.

I'd hate to see similar protests in the future about pie or beer prices. Or because our owners only gave us a 100m 'war chest' and not 300m one.

Exactly. What needs to be done is to make the fans committee much more representative and much, much more effective as a means of communication. But that would makes the likes of SOS much less visible and vital, and they wouldn't be happy about that.

Great point Gareth that was one of my immediate concerns too. I'm sure it's something FSG have thought of in all this - Macca is right representation needs to be reflect the whole spectrum of fans and not just turn into a militant fans union

Love the fact folks are still queuing up to have a sly pop at SOS, despite what they have achieved. Of course we would have got the same results by refusing to drink Dunkin Donuts coffee & writing stiff letters to our MPs, those vagabonds just had to make it so damn public & rowdy.

Tish, what is the world coming to.

Yay, forget serious political thinking and let's just gaze at the cover of a Jean Baudrillard book!

Obviously this was a conspiracy between SOS and the lizards, all planned in advance to make the former seem useful and the latter seem human.

I make no apologies , and admit I don't like the idea of an unelected unofficial fans group speaking on my behalf when they have no mandate to do so. I've been a season ticket holder for near 40 years and queued every match day for 10 years or more prior to that, my first season ticket was an Anny Road "ground" season ticket- I've spent thousands and thousands with the club - The problem with SoS is a lot of their support can come from who knows who and where. At the start of the Hicks and Gillet thing there were even suggestions one of the leading lights was a bluenose - they stiffed Purslow over publishing unsubstantiated minutes from a confidential meeting and had the Munich sing debacle at one of their meetings, they are not likely white - I know not everyone who is a member or supports their ethos is part of a rabble, quite the reverse the vast majority have the interests of the club at heart. I don't want to see this as a little bit of power that shop-stewards like McKenna can climb on and it end up like some bad dream from the seventies.
I was there then and a Union member I saw how they operated and it was I democratic with unrelated people making decisions - they closed a massive amount of Liverpool manufacturing.

I didn't walk on Saturday not because I agreed with the ticket hike, but , like many did not know enough to make an informed decision at that point.
For example not until Monday did I know that there were only 200 of the devisive £77 tickets and then only the six times a year
Many people I spoke to who did walk did not realise that either, or the details on the rest of the proposals but were led by the nose.
Had this happened at the next match they may well have made the same decision but at least they would have done it for the right reasons.

The club have done the right thing and it should be accepted as such with no caveats.

I promote caution.

Without them coming in we would have done a Leeds. I suggest you go out and make hundreds of millions of pounds then buy the club and then do what you want with it.

IMO it is more important to have a great atmosphere at the games than signing a £30m player. I think a part of Dortmunds success is down to that they have the wall driving them on the whole game, game after game. That give the players the hunger and extra energy they need.

The average ticket price should be £20 or so. We would get the fantastic atmosphere back and the players would play better because of that.

So, Ian Ayre then. Will FSG sack him after all this or what?

The way he sneered at the initial complaints was awful on several levels. It makes him look even worse now. If you basically imply that people who object to a policy are idiots, and then your bosses apologise for the policy and bin it, you're left in an awkward situation, and you deserve all the problems that follow. Time and again he proves he's just not suited to that role at the club. He's got undeniable ability in the commercial sphere, but that's where he should stay.

Ayre has been very quiet - it's all come directly from the owners with to the best of my knowledge , no mention of Ayre.
