The fact we look this ineffective when we want to have a go does not make me feel better

I really hope we get bought by some billionaire and we contribute to the destruction of football with inflated prices and wages. It's the only way.

I thought I'd never want that, but fuck it. We have to join the dark side.

Mark my words...

At least we look like we want to have a go this season.
[/quote]

Not in this game we haven't.

Hopefully there will be two first teamers brought in with the Masherano money and then it might be possible.

Will there mate ? Seriously ? We dont look at all different from last season at the moment but Hodgson has to be given time. Our off the field problems are massive, gargantuan. If we dont get new owners and the two despicable slimy greedy lying cunts of owners we have are allowed to refinance we're fucked. Seriously and utterly fucked. We've been comprehensively outplayed tonight. I can't even start to explain how I feel about our club at the moment. I know this is one game but it's the constant shite we have to deal with day after day after fucking day. Farcical takeover bids, players who don't want to play and, more importantly, a squad that's severley lacking talent and depth.

We grasp onto the ever diminishing threads of hope we have in vain but, as time progresses, it's hard to see what hope there is left. Could you blame Gerrard and Torres if they wanted out ? We're a fucking joke and are making Newcastle look like a well run club. It's nothing short of embarrassing and soul destroying.

There will indeed, but will there be enough of them to get back into the top four this season?

At the end of the season I believe most reckoned the team needed at the very least £50M invested into the squad and despite one or two decent freebie signings, we still have some big problems to solve.

I take back everything I said about Torres in the summer about him wanting to get off and that he should stay. I really wouldn't blame him if he wants to leave in January.

On the back of one game?

Behave. I know it doesn't look great like, but football can change in the space of a week. That's just ridiculous.

Not really. I just don't think we'll get into the top 4 again. We have largely the same team as last season and are on the verge of losing Mascherano, and are still without new owners. I really wouldn't blame him for moving.

Three points:

1. Lucas. What exactly does he do on the pitch? I mean really, does he contribute?

2. How can Hodgson play a 4 4 2 with Kuyt and Jovanovic? I'd accept playing that formation if we had a young Giggs and McManaman on the pitch. Talk about not knowing your players!

3. I never want to see Ngog and Torres on the pitch together again. Both of them looked a bit lost.
In retrospect he should have continued with the 4 2 3 1 formation. Played Poulsen and Gerrard in the middle and Pacheco behind the main striker.

Mascherano can go fuck himself.

With a red hot poker. Twat.

Jovanovic isn't better than Riera, and he offers no width.
Cole is on par with Yossi.
Insua is strangely still as shit as Insua.
Aurelio is strangely still as injury prone as Aurelio.
Poulsen is miles worse than Mascherano.
Insua is still here.

So, as I've said all summer, it's still all left to do. The spine of our team is missing vertebrae, we are obviously weak at LB, and we have no depth at striker.

If you weren't worried along with me a month ago, I assume you are worried now that it's left to the last second and we have 0 funds.

As we continue to go backward, the idea that somehow Hodgson is going to come in and bring back some feel good atmosphere is totally unrealistic. This has been exacerbated by an atrocious schedule at the beginning of the season.

It's going to be a long one.

Yeah he can. Doesn't change the fact he's still one of our actually good players. A rare commodity in this team.

lucas is not the ONLY problem we have but he is the MAJOR problem we have this season and last season .the sooner he leaves the better slow, weak, and shit i actually half laughed half cried when he tried to challenge yaya toure for the ball .

There is no arguing that City were powerful, motivated, with very talented players all over the pitch and really up for this first home game of their season; probably benefitting from the power of the debutant as well as the presence of the Sheikh. They made us look predictable in the final third too, suggesting Mancini prepared them very well against our known methods of attack.

However, their first goal seemed to me like ball watching (by Kuyt?) when he should have been tracking Barry - Andy Gray highlighted that at half time I think.

The second goal I didn't quite see, did it come off a red head or did a city player get to it? Regardless, I do wonder if our old zonal marking might have made it more difficult to get such a header in. Perhaps we are suffering from a change in defensive systems and it'll just take some time. We did have our best set of defenders on the pitch after all.

And the third goal looked like a dive by Adam Johnson to win the penalty. I haven't seen any close-up replays though. Was it?

So, whilst it was shit, for me it felt like a case of individual mistakes that can be put right on the training ground rather than a complete failure as a team.

Offensively they had us under control almost entirely. That was more of a worry.

In a 4-4-2 some of our players simply got found out for their limited ability.

I think there's a genuine lack of SKILL in this side (never mind pace) which has been covered up over recent years by organisation and defensive football.

Now we are actually trying to go out and attack, we are finding out that some of our players just aren't very good at doing so.

The second goal. Watch Lucas letting Tevez alone instead of keeping his marking... and when the ball fall to him he is suddenly standing 4 mtrs away from him etching the situation from distance. Fucking rubbish involvment.

Reina
-------
Carragher
Agger/Skrtel
Johnson

---------
Gerrard

---------
Cole
Kuyt

Torres

Thats our best 11. Theres work to be done for sure.
I cannot believe watching Lucas plod around again tonight we can countenance sending Aquilani out on loan.

On the bright side if we start the 1st 6 games around the relegation zone this may make the yanks realise they are not going to be able to offer a champions league club and speed up a sale for less money?

That's all correct, as is Oncy's best XI team.

We are 3 or 4 first team players away from being able to compete for top 4 in my opinion. And we haven't got the funds for those players.

Jesus christ what an overaction on here.

It's one games boys. Behave.

What it showed is that we need out creative players fit and firing this season if we are not getting more players.

But I've no doubt with the following team we will be just fine.

Babel needs to play but I've said that from the day Roy was appointed. He'll get the best out fo him.

------------------------Reina------------------------

GJ-----------Carra--------------Skittles---------Agger

Babel--------Gerrard------------Poulson---------Jovan

-----------------------Cole--------------------------
--------------------------Torres---------------------

Bench: Kuyt/Peacho/Auerilo/Maxi/Keeper

That team will beat all the middle and low tier teams and compete against the best.

It's a long season boys and a great game next week to bounce back with at home to Brom.

So all this game showed is that we need to have our few creative players to play really well for us to even have a chance.

So it's exactly the same as last year then. As I've been saying.

The same shit Liverpool performance you've come to expect, NOW WITH POULSEN!

What does "being fine" mean for you? 4th? You've listed a team there with no natural wingers, playing 442, with agger out of position at left back. No, that team won't compete with the best. I doubt it will get 4th. Because it doesn't make any fucking sense. Teams that are good don't have a first team that is so out of whack, and the top teams have a squad that is far stronger as well.

People aren't reacting to a single game, they are reacting to the frightening reoccurrence of all too familiar symptoms, and wondering why it'll be any different this time around, let alone better, while Lucas waves goodbye to another top class midfielder he seems to have learned fuck all from.

Good post Fark, it also makes me wonder why we're shipping out Acuilani, when we need creative options...even off the bench!

Babel can easily play wide right and has the pace and ability to beat a man.

I choose Agger as I prefer him to Aurelio but you can slot him in if it looks better to you.

Last year we had a manager who didn't allow his team to play or his attacking players to create. This year I believe we do and once we get into our stride we will see the benefits.

Plus I really believe you are criminally underrated JC in all of this. The lad has not been playing regular 1st team football for years. Given a couple of months week in week out I think he will be on fire.
